Imagine being Kurt's NOT favorite guitars...what a fate. You ended up Endless...Nameless. I bought every guitar I own because of him. Sonic blue and red Mustangs. My baby is an original 66' Sunburst Jaguar with some modifications for 1,000 dollars circa 1998. Thanks Mom, she went half on me when I was 16.

Thanks to your extensive documentation and research into Kurt’s guitars I have embarked on a journey of my own to make my dream nirvana guitar by combining my favourite aspects of my favourite guitars that he used. Im hoping it comes out as good as im hoping it does

I saw Skystang 1 at the museum of pop culture in Seattle in 2018. I wasn’t expecting to see it as I toured the exhibit and I was fucking stoked when I saw it displayed! I taped live and loud when it aired on MTV and I watched it countless times and still do lol. Keep up what good work on the channel!

@@spaceofmind4962I guess Chad loaned the guitar to the museum for display. I double checked the pictures I took of it after the latest vids on the channel about and and sure enough the yellow V is clear as day on the pick guard.

There is a company called Pickfordguards that make a replica of the Skystang 1 pickguard. I personally think they look pretty good. They are over $100 but might be worth it to get your replica as close to the real thing.

Courtney was so cool giving the kid the SkyStang 3. Meanwile his parents were a total bi tch selling his guitar behind his back. By the way, in the letter, Courtney said that they recived the 8 guitars. So no "sold in Japan thing

There is documentation and confirmation from Scott Zimmerman that Kurt ordered 10 custom shop left handed mustangs in 1993. Meanwhile, Courtney has a notorious reputation for mixing things and for just straight up lying. Siding with the custom shop master builder on this one

Wow, I hadn't noticed til now, but you really can tell by the pic at 7:10 that the Skystang I bridge came off one of Earnie's personal guitars... the saddles are still intonated for a right handed guitar! I'm kinda shocked that it wasn't changed. Must have been "close enough for rock n roll", haha!

I seen Kurt's Skystang 1 when it was on display in Kildare, Ireland just before it was sent over to Juliens auctions in America. It was a pretty surreal moment to be honest the only thing between me and it was a thin pane of glass, there wasn't even really a security guard either, just a guy in the corner.😅😂

I remember thinking waaaaaaay back then that there was only 2 Skystangs The Live and Loud one (which looked white to me due to the footage and we now know is Ss1) And the "Blue one" (which was also Ss1) that at first had a white JB then they replaced with a black one (and I wondered if the pickup broke or something like that haha) So cool that we have so much more info nowadays The Ss2 is my favorite looks wise, I just love the black JB there completely breaking the clean look Ss1 has

@@greyworld13 i’m talking about those particular guitars. The SH4 JB pickup doesnt sound good (except for playing high gain distortion on a tube amp). Dimarzio superdistortion way better, less nasal, better for cleans, much more versatile. Plus the jag has lot more tonal options, plus the vibrato is better and brings behind the bridge playing on the table. And above all, because of the tuneomatic brige, the comfort, action / string height will be bad, but since the JC jag has 9.5 radius, it will play already better than the 7.5 radius mustang (but if you change the bridge = problem solved). So overall KC Jaguar is a far better guitar than the KC Mustang (which i guess explains why it’s in the catalog since 10 years and is a big seller)

He didn't end up receiving all 10 in his lifetime 😢 The last 4 ended up being sold in Japan as just normal left handed mustangs. They are somewhere out there, 4 mustangs that were custom built for him!

The old JBs from the 80s didn’t have logos on them and I think they had rough cast magnets. Wasn’t Curt a Dimarzio Super Distortion guy before the switch to the JBs ? Interesting that it started out body mounted and then the change to pickguard, he must’ve been still experimenting with the pickup height or if he’s like me constantly messing with the bridge pickup height to get an acceptable cleanish sound but still sound great when filthy. The JB is probably the best compromise of high output and still sounding decent clean . It’s crazy how good red tortoise pick guards look on Sonic Blue guitars you wouldn’t think it would work but it’s a vibe.

I finally found this out today that only in utoro album three of my favorite songs serve the servants settlers apprentice, and heart-shaped box I finally found out that the guitars that were used on the three songs were a jaguar on serve the servants the Jaguars used again on centerless apprentice and on heart-shaped box, Kurt Cobain, are used his white unit box, highflyer,

It's still a custom mustang that was made for him! And his techs modded it to his specs at his request. There's no footage of it on stage but I'd bet he at least played it after the mods to test it out. You still saw an amazing & beautiful Kurt Cobain guitar!

Might be a dumb question but I read somewhere that Kelley Deal (from The Breeders) was gifted a blue Mustang by Kurt. I can't find anything that proves this but I know she acquired a blue mustang in either 1993 or 1994. Could it be one of the 5 blue mustangs ordered? Kelley doesn't play lefty though so I'm assuming it's not true

Hi there, I always thought those mustangs (or at least some/one of them) were the Fender colour 'Daphne Blue'. I used to own a Japanese Mustang that was Daphne Blue with the red Tort. I always thought 'sonic blue' was lighter with far less green in it's tone. Skystang III really looks like Daphne blue in some of the pictures used here. I'm no expert though, especially on Kurt's guitars.. so it's just an observation.

7:58 You can't blame fender for recreating the guitar that they had access to. And they still used the wrong color switches lol Also, it's crazy to me that they aren't selling the in utero mustangs again, being its the 30th anniversary, and an in utero mustang is being auctioned. Lots of attention to these guitars right now, but it's the Jag-stang that's currently available. Fender really needs someone like Eric to run the signature series line, no doubt he'd be 1000x better than who's doing that now.

I’d like to know how the intonation is correct on these if you notice the bridges are still setup for a right handed player. Any guitar techs out there?

I noticed that too on Skystang I, after the fact when I was looking at my footage, about the bridge being intonated for righty. I have no explanation or insight as to why it’s set up that way, I’m just as puzzled as you

@@NirvanaGuitars I do know it would mean that the scale length, from nut to bridge saddle, would be reversed because the guitar was strung left handed. Now I know it would be more of a factor if Kurt played around or above the twelve fret, but I’m curious how off it would have been.
