you can hear in Kurt's voice how nervous he is while talking with the host in between songs, but when he plays, he sounds like a completely different person & confidently nails every song.

More than half of In Utero was written before 1993 All Apologies, Dumb, Radio Friendly, Pennyroyal Tea were written in 1990 Rape Me, tourettes in 1991 Frances Farmer, Serve the Servants, Scentless Apprentice in 1992 The rest (which is not much) was written either late 1992 or early 1993

Calvin was an elitist - perceived himself as superior to Kurt’s more parochial background. Indelible hipster form. At the time and probably until he died, Kurt craved approval from these types. “The Jam” references from Calvin. Kurt’s self conscious, “It’s a rip off”. And the rest of it. Of course, had Kurt lived, he would have realized the absurdity of it all. I assume Calvin would have too. Still, it remains a beautiful and pure moment captured, one that’s very of its time - the inferiority complex of a young genius in the presence of the self proclaimed who’s who.

@@megenthalit's said that even in life Kurt later wrote in his journal about Calvin's arrogance. Kurt was a fan of Calvin's who was five years older, so it's easy to see why he acted this way. It's not so easy to speculate how he and Calvin would relate today were he alive.
