Honestly, it baffles me that Kushida didn't see this coming, her entire life has been nothing but a cycle of betrayals and backstabbing, how did she not think the same would happen to her? hell, the person she's colluding with is one of the shiftiest bastards at the school and she didn't even think of a counter in the event he left her to the wolves?

Even in Horikita didn’t change the exam Ayanakoji still had back up plans even if Kei couldn’t sneak a cheat sheet into Kushida’s blazer Ayanakoji would just put in Ike’s jacket. Both of them are partners for the exam if one of them was caught cheating they both get expelled he’s always prepared to expel anyone

@@nirotpal3 Wtf it's so simple: In the exam, you get assigned a partner. Between the two of you, you need an average good enough to pass the exam. If your partner gets caught cheating, you both get expelled. Ayanokouji made a plan to sneak a cheat sheet inside the clothes of Kushida to frame her of cheating. But if he had failed, he could've easily ruined Ike, Kushida's partner.

@@zk-vd6uy one of the reason is that I studied last minute (don't cancel me, I'm the type that remember things for a short time so I study near the exam date so that the topics will stick to my brain during the exam). Another reason is that I also need to study for another subject as both were on the same day. So my brain was kinda short of storage space.

A real genius would have studied and be prepared for a counter move(doing better on the new test then try again later) but Kishida did neither and relied on one plan. It doesn't take a genius to know that Kishida is way over her head if she thinks she can expel anyone without a backup plan to the main plan. And she said that she was going for Ayanokoji(basically asking for 150cc when she couldnt even pass practice mode)

I've been trying to like this show from the start, even tried watching the first season twice but dropped it halfway both times. I wasn't sure why I wasn't really feeling it even though I knew there was some hype around the show and the main character. By watching this clip I realised I just couldn't take it as seriously as intended by the anime. I can't seem to find the portrayed academic system in the anime to be believable, because it felt quite detached from reality. I was a straight-A student during my undergrad and am doing pretty well for myself now in the workforce, and while by no means was it an easy road, the level of twists and turns, backstabbing, and plotting in the show somehow just felt a little comical. Like its not that serious. I'm not sure if other people feel the same way, but I guess it's just not my cup of tea. No offense to anyone who likes the anime though, we all have our preferences.

Sounds like you don't understand the whole concept of the show. It's about students in an Advanced Nurturing High School. It's the most elite school in Japan. You can't compare it to your regular high school experience. This school is supposed to raise the future leaders of Japan. Of course it's gonna present more realistic situations for adults and not for students. (Aka backstabbing, gaslighting etc.).

This isn't your average high school. This is what private rich kid school is like. Don't think of it as your typical high school slice of life. This high school is more like 'Survivor' except instead of being about wilderness survival, it's all about navigating the complex world of politics and high society. These kids are not here to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic. That's secondary. They're learning how to be the next generation of people in power and how to manipulate the lower classes. These tests are less to weed out the academically able and more about who's going to be the next Prime Minister and their cabinet. Their world is far more cutthroat than yours or mine. It's likely the kind of culture difference that makes it hard for you to 'get into it'.

Agreed. Even as someone who grew up in london and knew private schoolers (my mum worked with some rich folk), at most the parents would just "donate" to the school if they wanted something done for their child. I tried getting into the LN after the anime, but it just showcased how lacking the writing is (or maybe the en translation didn't convey it) for these so called "geniuses".

@@christopherhendrata3617errr they are on (senior) high school level, no? The equivalent is 10th-12th grade or just before entering campus. Also considering they are running "elite school", it is expected they will encounter at least 1-2 grade(s) earlier. By Japan standard: 5/7-11/13 years old => elementary school (1st - 6th grade) 3 years after =>middle school / junior high school (7th - 9th grade) 3 years after => (senior) high school (10th - 12th grade) If you looked at the MC profile is 16-17 years old during the anime story, that would put him in the senior high school range as late entry actually.
