Devastating fires and floods hit the Merritt subdivision of the Kettle Valley Railway route in late 2021. One of the most popular sections exists at the start of the route, from Brodie Station north. I wanted to see what condition the trail is and if the route is still navigable.

So sad to see it that destroyed, but nice to see a couple of the trestles survived. You're right though, it probably will never be repaired 😢

Very much enjoyed. As a railway history nerd, I appreciate the maps and mention of the subdivision, at the start of the video. Thanks for all of your work on this.

Awesome trip! Too bad about the devastation from floods and fires, but a good display of what Mother Nature can do😁

Been wondering how that section fared...we came at it from where it crosses Brookmere road at Bridge #6 and we were gobsmacked by the devastation. Thanks for the intel.

Cool little adventure, sad to see all that damage. Hopefully the community can come together to rebuild the trail, it's totally possible to do. Might need some funding from the province to repair the bridges. I still want to ride the whole thing some day!

Thank you for the video. I’ve been wondering about that section, I think Brookmere is the best starting point at present.

I beg to differ on Brookmere as a starting point. You can’t go very far on the KVR in either direction without the trail being destroyed and very difficult to navigate.

Thanks for this. I have been curious of the extent of the damage. I hope they find the time and funds to repair this. At least it’s only one bridge

That's right! I hear it used to be a nice scenic loop from Brookmere but now it takes a couple separate day trips!

Have not done that section and did not know any trestles existed. pity that the rail trail can not be repaired for tourism .

very interesting vid. thanks. I would be interested in bicycling, filming, documenting the Brodie to Coquihalla Lakes section and see how much damage there is and how impassible is.

Mother nature takes all back eventually. In my Rockies, old roads sub alpine left alone, are basically gone in twenty years. Grown in, erroded and mostly unrecognizable. Your trail is a huge loss though. I'm sure many people enjoyed it before its devastation.

For years I followed Iohan Gueorguiev kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bql3rbZ0sJ--h3U.htmlsi=NgDm6ZtLv8VVqyjA and his bike travels from Northwest Territories to Argentina. Iohan made some YT vids of his riding the Kettle Valley Rail. An amazing young man. RIP

It’s one super hat. I attached the brim of an old hat onto a bike helmet. I think you need one.
