I am fortunate enough to have both. My wife and I decided to trade my old R1 and newer Tracer for one of each. Got the GSX about two months ago and the Ninja just 4 days ago. They are both exceptionally good. A bit more leg room on the GSX but otherwise very little difference. Neither one will have you wishing for more power. We had a 2012 Ninja 1000 and this newer version is better in every detail. A taller rider might find the Ninja a little bit if a tight fit but that’s not either of us. Truly an embarrassment of riches.

@@dbauernf very smooth. Compared to the 2012 Ninja we had everything about the 23 SX is much more refined. Perhaps a bit smoother than the GSX, which has a more raspy sound, but still feels solid. Honestly, it’s like choosing between two delicious dishes.

Hi, I have owned both bikes, I had the Suzuki gsxs1000Gt for 18 months, I still have the Kawasaki 1000sx ninja, My thoughts are the Suzuki good points comfortable riding position on a long journey, better TFT good on fuel 53 mpg , more leg room for taller riders , bad points, poorer, brakes, The sat nav is not worth the hassle using it you have to key in your journey ( better with a garmin) The Kawasaki 1000sx ninja good points good riding position better brakes, handles like a sports bike more flickable in the bends, feels lighter than the Suzuki once the bike is moving. Bad points less leg room for taller riders, I prefer the Kawasaki for me as the handling is much better and that was a big plus for me.

I got my ninja 1000 SX since last may 2022, and it is marvelous for a beginner. Very smooth, the weight is not a issue at all, I ran on rain mode from may to mid-july to be cautious and learn my bike reactions and adapt myself to this bike. Then I could push the bike a bit, and use the road then sport mode. very versatile for long road or city street. very agile. The differences between modes are in the beginning part of the acceleration, so you gain in power and reactiveness while you get less active electronic actions. In first gear from 0 to 105km/h, 100% throttle from start, in rain mode it's progressive and you feel the electronic cutting the start power, very weird sensation but after that it's all the same. In sport mode your wheel make a little wheely like half of the wheel height. Then, for the max speed in rain mode you go to 240 km/h when sport you go to 250 km/h. best to quick shift @10250-10500 rpm. Obviously the pace to get there is different and a bit slower in rain mode than in sport mode. When you take the time to learn how the throttle is sensitive in different mode, you can drive in sport mode even in town, but there is no point doing so in my opinion. Road or rain mode in town is perfect and more than enough. I'm not racing in town, so I ride at a cool pace in rain mode. I put in road mode if I know I will use the highway. On the comfort side, I can't ride more than 2 hours straight, my butt hurt too much and I need to walk to stretch my legs. Paniers do nothing to the balance or the weight of the bike, it feels the same with or without. I noticed a little difference with lateral wind, and it's a bit better without them in that case. FYI it's only 5kg in a panier. Both very easy to remove when you have done it a couple times. The 12 volt DC power is for 20 watts and 3A ampere fuse, so forget to use a compressor for your tires. You can just power a phone and a camera at the same time. Also you need to remove frontale fairing to change this fuse. The usb connector option under the seat is useless, the key to access under the seat is on the left side below the seat. The heated grip works very well.

Bike that you can't ride for more than two hours without stretching your legs etc. shouldn't have a tourer in the description. I had a 2017 model, and an hour was the maximum I could manage without knees and lower back pain. It's great for commuting, though. It looks fantastic and is nimble, but not for long distances. Of course, it's only my opinion based on three years of ownership I'm still thinking of buying the 2022 model at the end of the year

I went ahead with the Suzuki. After a few mods (bar risers, heated grips, smaller rear sprocket and HH brake pads) I now have an extremely competent, comfortable and fast sport tourer. As for the complaining about the single headlight I can safely say that at night the one beam is pretty bright and having the high beam on it’s overkill. Maybe the next iteration of the Kawasaki will be pretty amazing considering how good the current model is.

I personally know a YT'er who traded a 900rs in for one an loves it an I have one. these two 'things' are squid missiles with situp bars and bags- if u pay for them- an will kill u on the highway with high rpm buzz and wind. seriously.. i think the kwakalaky wins in the engine and power department. most people who buy these bikes are not going to care about top speed. reviewers who have ridden these bikes back to back say that the kawy has more power down low and the suzu has more power up high. meaning, the kawy has more power where most people are actually going to be using it; in the low and midrange. also i think the remote preload in the rear would be a big deal to some people.

Engine and Box History ie Major Repair Work. Susuki will always beat Kawasaki Bikes over time. I am Suzuki for 8 years and found them to be Faultless. Bulletproof is what any Dealer will tell you. The GSX Family goes before it. For me the Suzi edges it on looks and features, the TFT on Suzi is larger and clearer, Major benefit for me. These seem like great bikes. I’ve ridden the Ninja. But I think they’re too far removed from touring. Yeah you can ride any bike across country but slapping panniers on a sport bike and raising the bars and lowering the pegs is not the magic recipe for sport tourer. In my opinion the greatest ones are the Concours and FJR and BMW RT. Yeah they’re heavier and slower but definitely not weak bikes. And wayyy more comfortable than these two. Keep making this kind of sport tourer and you’ll keep pushing people to Goldwings and ADV bikes.

Both solid rides. Having owned an '11 N1K, a bike I loved, I'm a bit biased but I could be swayed to the Suzuki. Still, Kawi has had over a decade to evolve the model and it's likely still the better bike due to its level of refinement. And now Kawi is reportedly about to release a highly revised 2023 N1K while the Suzuki surely won't be significantly updated anytime soon, especially since Suzuki has bragged about how much development went into this bike. If I was in the market, I think I'd likely end up w/the Kawi again, that is unless the Suzuki presented a much better financial deal.

You didn't mention a few major issues. When it comes down to it, it's just going to be which one appeals to you more. They are THAT close. The Bluetooth phone connectivity on the KAWI is useless. You need to download their app, but trust me there's nothing you'll find useful on it. I own a 2020 SX. What I find ludicrous is how ridiculously low and tightly spaced the gearing is on both bikes. They've castrated them. Engine braking at 50 mph in top gear at around 4000 rpm on a 140 hp litre bike ? Gimme a break. And good luck changing sprocket sizes it'll render the abs/traction control useless and there is NO work around. The Suzuki is even worse gearing wise. Only after owning the bike about 3 weeks did I realize this. It's a major design flaw on both bikes. I don't like cruising at twice the rpms I should be, the gearing just makes me ride slower since I'd rather ride the bike where the Engine is happiest. Another interesting note, my 2005 GSXR 600 is DEFF the more comfortable of the two with just installing heli-bar after market clip ons. One inch closer and one inch higher than stock they made ALL the difference. The Ninja has all your weight on the 'taint', you gotta experience that to see how fast you go numb down there. GSXR ? No issues stock seat. Right now I have a 20 year old SS ($3500) and a 4 year old sport touring with luggage $10,000. I'd take the GSXR over the Ninja any day, currently adding proper luggage to it that doesn't hinder its appearance. These are issues you don't realize exist until having owned the bike a few weeks. ATM I'm thinking just ditch the Ninja and put all my efforts and money into a 20 year old SS. It was the last year for no emissions, no abs etc, it's drive by cable and there's simply no comparing the two but the old GSXR comes out a winner where the Ninja was intended to be the clear winner. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, but that's my experience.... Why keep one bike when the other SS is doing a better job ? IDK man it's been a strange journey with these two bikes, sometimes it takes awhile to figure things out...

Great review, but I cringed everytime you crossed the centre line. I think the Suzi wins if you love that good old k5 'grunt everywhere' delivery or the Kwaka if you like the tech and a screaming top end.

Ninja any day! Tried them both. The Ninja is more sport the Suzuki is more touring. However, the Suzuki feels more clumsy especially especially in the corners and not as agile. Enginewise both deliver more than you need. One point for the Suzuki here is that the engine’s character is closed to the GSX x thus GSXR, whereas Kawasaki got smoother and smoother and away from just building some plastic around a Z1000 which i love with my 2012 model. At the end of the day both excellent bikes and excellent value. It comes down to personal preferences.

@@misterb1132 That’s the fun of it isn’t it? Every bike is different for everyone. :) to be fair: i’m already riding a Z1000SX which gives the ninja the advantage.

I went for the Suzuki. Looks better, better price, buttery gearbox and more power. Plus you dont havs to put up with random Kawakaki engine noises!

I'm seeing a lot of reports of timing chain slap on the GSX after it warm up, thats the only reason I'm considering the SX. Apples to apples the GSX looks a lot better and the GT+ come with the bags installed, I cant find an SX with bags straight away. Hopefully the timing chain sound is a rare thing.

I watched this following review a couple of months ago and still believe the Kawasaki wins. The comments these guys make about the brakes on the GT are just one of the many reasons I pick Kawasaki. Judge for yourself, but consider what this review offers. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ptKooceh05iaYGw.html

The noses on these bikes leave me cold, and those teeny LED headlights, ESPECIALLY with just one side running, will be all-but invisible to oncoming traffic and worse, to the vast numbers of DEER in the US nowadays.

Since your comparison isn’t a ridden one I will add since I own the kwak, a 2021 performance touring edition and now ridden the Suzuki a number of times. Only area the Suzuki wins is the engine, it runs quieter less clutch basket rattle and just feels a sweeter unit and the Suzuki quick shifter is better on the down shift. If fit and finish is important then the kwak hands down, you can tell it’s generations down the road compared to Suzuki GT, paint finish on the kwak is stunning and very average on the GT. the kwak is just a better bike in most departments and proves why they are the top of the Japanese bike manufacturers of late. Oh and the GT seat is hard and narrow compared to the kwak. My advise would be ride them both and then you will buy the kwak. 🛵
