I was sexually and physically abused from the age of 3 till I was 13 my earliest childhood memory is one of pain self loathing and anger. This song was played with a clip of Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy scene where he is in his cage as a baby and says his first word is “Hurts” And it breaks me cause I can relate only I had no Lyla to make it better or bearable. Im 44 now with medication and over 18 years of therapy and is still fresh. Great song so emotive and deep.

I had this song playing in the background on a recommended playlist, and after catching some of the lyrics, I started it over, and pulled the full lyrics up. It had me thinking about how I thought about the future, and how I had so many thoughts about my existence, and that I once wanted a life with as few restrictions/responsibilities as I could manage while still doing the bare minimum (in my mind, at the time) to be able to do what I enjoyed. I had accepted that there was always going to be some degree of absurdity because I had accepted the (ultimate) "meaninglessness", but still did things I thought "mattered" (for my life/experience). I also read something like a quote (I don't recall the source), but it spoke about self-growth, and how we learn about all these ways to improve ourselves, and as we begin to stack them up, it can become a source of future guilt and shame, especially if we stop or don't do the things that will improve our lives. The reading ended by saying that this is where self-acceptance comes into play. We have to learn acceptance to have self-worth as we'll never be able to perfect/change our past, and we won't do everything "right" in the future. And this, the absurdity of trying to find peace between self improvement AND self acceptance, is why we (fools) look elsewhere for purpose along the way. We want a guiding hand, and can't believe we guide ourselves and hold responsibility over what comes next.
