Kyan's Piece | Performed by members of Queensland Symphony Orchestra

The musicians of Queensland Symphony Orchestra were honoured to record this special arrangement of ‘Kyan’s Piece’ - with piano part written by 12-year-old Kyan Pennell, who tragically died two weeks ago.
Kyan had a passion for classical music, and taught himself piano just seven months ago. Unbeknownst to his parents he started writing his own composition before his passing, which his mother Amanda found in a notebook.
Thank you to Hyung Suk Bae for leading this project, to Craig Allister Young for his stunning arrangement, and to the members of the Orchestra who volunteered their time to record this haunting, yet hopeful, work.

When I heard of this tragic event, then heard this magnificent piece of music on my radio in Scotland, it stopped me in my tracks, I could not move. Incredible to think Kyan, aged just 12 years old had crafted such an elegant and stunning piece of music, his family must be so proud of him. To Hyung Suk Bae and all of others involved at Queensland Symphony Orchestra, thank you for brining such light out of the darkness. Kyan was clearly a highly talented young man, my sincere thoughts and prayers are with Kyan`s family.

This is immensely aching, sorrowful, and yet also brilliantly beautiful. I could not imagine a more fitting aria to the life of a young boy, or the pain that comes from losing one's child. This moved me to tears. Thank you

The entire piece is pure tragedy. A tad of joy in between, like memories flowing through the notes, but always keeping a hint of sadness. At the end of the piece, it feels like he's finally free, like a child running through a field of sunflowers after going through so much. So beautiful.

I just read about Kyan, and then found this... I...am...crying so much....😭😭😭 My heart is just broken...for the family...for Kyan... however, it is this composition that moves me to tears..It is haunting and touches my soul. Absolutely beautiful... Kyan was a very special being.
