8:40 The red zone is where creatures go when they attack. At professional events in the year of our Lord 2000, there was an area at the top of the playmat that was red, and players were supposed to move creatures there while they were attacking. Supposedly, this made viewing easier for those watching at home on the old 640x480 displays. So a deck with "red zone" in the name was an attack deck.

I don't know if this is a reference, but back when Craig Ferguson did the Late, Late Show and he got censored, they'd put a small image (usually some country's flag) and some stereotypical voiceover (like pairing the French flag with "Ooh la la") as a replacement. That always cracked me up. This feels very much in that vein.

Blastoderm should have stuck around for one more turn, as Fading instructs you to sacrifice the creature when you CAN’T remove a counter. This would have made a lethal crackback after removing the Parralax Wave. Vanishing is the Time Spiral “fixed” version of Fading which has you sacrifice the creature when the last counter is removed.

Hey, just wanted to point out you got Fading confused with Vanishing. With a fading creature, you must remove a counter each upkeep and you only sacrifice the creature if you are unable to do so. The Blastoderm in both games should have remained on the battlefield for an additional turn. The newer Vanishing keyword causes the permanent to sacrifice when the last counter is removed, which is how you played Fading here.

the fact that both kiblers, whilst being cocky, fell prey to the same little destructo blocker with the same jade leech was the true "chefs kiss" of this video XD fit well with the back in time theme too since it was a bizarrely perfect example of deja vu

Great game, so nostalgic seeing this! Just as an interesting note, Voxy could have used the parallax wave to exile her own creatures in response to it being destroyed, that way they would come back untapped, "canceling" her attack, at least partially to save specific creatures if she wanted

Miss play on the blastoderm, you sacrifice it when you can't remove fade counter, not when you remove the last ! The white version of blastoderm have this kind of mechanic, not the original green one ;)

@@davidgill9463 Well, to be fair, Fading was famous for being played wrong before Vanishing was printed. That basically was the reason why Vanishing came to be as the "fixed" version. Vanishing works how a lot of people especially in the casual realm played Fading anyway.

While it's a shame that Brian was ill, it's a fairer game between Voxy and Brian Kyle Kibler-Hill as both were unfamiliar with this format. I played in this time, it was immense fun to see how differently the decks were played by modern players.

That's not how fading works, KIBBS. Also, I noted two missed opportunities for the rebel deck, even though it didn't need them : in response to Parallax Wave being destroyed, Voxy could have removed counters to exile her board, so they would come back and avoid being destroyed in combat. And in response to the Rishadan Port "BM" from Prof... Kibbs, Voxy could have used the mana she floated on a rebel ability instead of just losing it, especially with the flexible one on Lin Sivvi. Or maybe use the Dust Bowl to destroy the Port, even. But hey, still a fantastic series to watch =)
@seizan88
@seizan88 Жыл бұрын
Yes. They basically nerfed fading to vanishing. I also noticed the Parallax Wave thing. Though, I think only exiling the legend would have been enough to protect her. Pushing damage is not bad if you only lose 1 creature. On the floated mana though I disagree. Yes, she could have used that. But if there is not a specific creature you want on the board (and rebels are rather weak) you might prefer to keep your lands open so you can play stuff from your hand. Like the two split intants she had.
@DrSnap23
@DrSnap23 Жыл бұрын
@@seizan88 With one mana, you could activate Lin Sivvi to get a 1-mana rebel, it's better than just losing the mana. But I checked back and I'm pretty sure she also has Rishadan Port at the point where she could have used Lin Sivvi.

My friends and I just had the same "Questing Beast Pop Quiz" come up two days ago, the one ability we were struggling to recall correctly was the "damage dealt by attacking creatures can't be prevented" as it had to do with beating through protection effects lol. The use of "BM" as gaming slang is much older than Twitch. I recall seeing it thrown around a lot in the early 00's to refer proscribed conduct while dueling in Diablo II (actions that the game engine itself didn't stop players from doing, but which was considered off limits in a duel). I always heard it stood for "bad mojo" though. I'm going to assume that it started out as "bad mojo" and that "bad manners" is a corrupton of the original. Could be the other way around for all I know, but that would be boring.
