Great song! What'd you use to get that great clean Schmo at 00:58?

Thank you Ian! It's a Soldano plugin with the cabinet turned off, into a DBX compressor. I use SoundToys MicroShift on H3000 mode, Valhalla VintageVerb on a Lexicon Plate style setting, & Valhalla Vintage Delay doing a basic digital thing (I dial it kind of SDE-3000-y but a little more filtered).

@@kylekarich Thanks for the info! Do you do a wet-dry-wet thing where, say, the delay is only on the left side, the reverb is only on the right, and the middle has no delay/verb? Or is it all together? I've been chasing those clean tones in a DAW for a while now but could never figure out how to get them to sound the way you did here. Judging by the lack of tutorials online, I don't think a lot of people care enough about the sound to re-create it, or they couldn't figure it out. I recently broke down and bought the Overloud TH-U "Rockin' Racks" Rig Library to get a decently priced tri-chorus plugin, and also to get emulations of the Huff/Landau/Lukather clean tones.

@@ianmiller1000 So all the wet fx are stereo (except for these cleans I do also run a simple chorus in front of the amp too, which is mono of course), but consider that the cleans are double tracked. So that is going to have most of the information on the sides for the cleans because they're panned out & the effects are stereo. However the solo, for example, is hard panned in the center, so in that case all the effects are stereo ("wet dry wet style") so they're being used more as reinforcement for the part in the mix to get the lead guitar to sit right with everything else. I have a couple videos about DAW schmo on my channel you could check out.

@@kylekarich I just checked out your "80s Studio Clean Formula Explained" video, VERY informative! It sounds like there was a lot more going on than just some chorus and reverb, but that makes sense since a lot of times these big 80s clean sounds were a single-tracked guitar that could still fill up so much space across the mix and in the stereo spectrum. I don't often play music with clean parts, but for a song I'm recording now the verses are clean and just crying out for some Schmo. Our goal with these recordings is to rely as little on plugins and post-processing as possible, but plugins would make it really simple (I already have the Nembrini plug-in, some Overloud packs, etc.). I've got a 4-input recording interface and I'm experimenting with using all 4 inputs for one performance using various methods to choose the optimal clean sound, or blend them together. Input 1 is a DI, Input 2 is a mic'd up Fender Twin, and Inputs 3 and 4 are the stereo outputs from a Rockman Soloist headphone amp. I already tried something similar with the distorted guitar parts and it was a great way to get a big sound for one performance, letting me double-track where usually I'd have to quad-track.
