I ordered my 15" Air the moment it was available. I got the base memory but 512 gigs of SSD. I don't think I could be happier. It is my primary device at home. I have a 27" 4k monitor and an Apple full size Smart Keyboard for it. I've done tons of Fusion 360 modeling, 4k video creation in DaVinci. Even World of Warcraft with every setting to max. The thing doesn't miss a beat.

Thanks for another great video. I don't have the 15 but I can say from experience with my M2 MBA 13 that the base model works great for day-to-day tasks, with no memory swapping and no noticeable issues with the slower storage. It really all comes down to keeping expectations reasonable.

I picked up the base model and it is perfect for my needs. I already have a Mac Mini M2 with 16GB of RAM at my office. I previously used a 2020 iPad Pro 11" and then a 2022 iPad Pro 11" as my mobile device. I wasn't satisfied with the size of the 11" iPads and was going to get a 12.9" Pro. I decided to go with the Macbook Air after seeing the larger iPad was going to be more expensive than a 15" Air when you get the iPad Magic keyboard. It was exhausting trying to make the iPad Pro a Macbook replacement. I find the universal control works better between the Air and the Mac Mini. I gave my wife and one of my kids the iPad Pros and haven't looked back! I have been pretty happy with the experience. I recently took the Air on a business trip and it was nice to share with potential customers our product information on a larger screen. The small downside is that there wasn't room on the airplane's seat tray for both the Macbook and a drink.

I have the 15” base model, and wanted to upgrade to the 16gb unified memory and yet I have been using it for the past month and it has been completely fine. I am an accountant student so my work involves more memory than storage and yet it works flawlessly. No complaints here.

This is an amazing video! Very well done. I bought the 15” with 16GB RAM and the 512GB SSD in Space Gray. I consider myself very difficult to please, and a very demanding “Pro User.” After using a 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro (16GB, 512GB) as my daily driver… This 15” M2 Air is perfect for most people. It’s so satisfying to reach over with one hand… snatch it up off the couch or my bed… and throw it in my lap. I couldn’t do this as easily with the 16” Pro, and the difference always puts a smile on my face. The thin and light build of the Air is what I like most about it. Yes, the 16” M1 Pro has a more powerful chip, a much nicer screen, better speakers, more ports, and fans to help with performance. But the M2 Air with the 16/512 is powerful enough for just about anyone I know. Now, the M1 MAX is on a completely different level. A 15” Air doesn’t even come close to a 16” MAX. If anyone is torn between a new 15” M2 Air with 16/512 ($1,699), or a refurbished 14” or 16” M1 Pro… Here’s my recommendation: #1 - 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro #2 - 15” M2 Air #3 - 14” M1 Pro MacBook Pro The M2 Air Summary: - It’s super thin and light - Don’t be worried about an upgraded M2 (16/512) being slow… because it’s NOT! - The 15” M2 Air’s screen is excellent - The speakers are excellent - The keyboard on the Air is better than the black one on the Pro A $1,699 15” M2 Air with 16/512 is the perfect laptop for 95% of the people on the planet in 2023/2024. If you’re in the other 5%… then a MAX over a Pro is the way to go.

⁠@@d24⁠The dual. If I could rewind time, I would get the 70w. It charges much faster and I never use both inputs on the 35w. I recently purchased a Space Gray 16” M1 MAX MacBook Pro (32GB, 1TB, and 10/32 processor) for $615 more than the 15” M2 Air. I sold the Air almost immediately. The M1 MAX is 3-4x the computer across the board. They don’t even compare and for $615, it was a no brainer.

I got a 16/512 refurbished with 3 battery cycles (basically new) for 1295, from now on I would feel uncomfortable using a smaller one like the 14, so if I ever change it, it would be for a 16", but that thing is a brick to carry around and you would underutilize all that power anyway, and if you're home. A mac studio seems a better option.

I"ve had the base 13"M1 and it was spectacular. I've had the 14" M2 Pro - those sharp edges kill your wrists for typing, so I sold it to get the 15". I LOVE the 15" Air. Perfect for me. The Pro had an exquisite display, but typing was painful for long stretches. This is just right - I can compromise with the non XDR screen as I grew up with windows 3.1 on CRT displays. This is perfect for my use case.

I just picked up an M2 15" Air this week. I'm blown away by the capabilities and ease of use. This is my first MAC and I'm happy so far. I did get 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. My local Best Buy had it on clearance since Apple is no longer selling the 15" M2, so I got a good deal on that RAM and Storage combination. Overall, very happy

It all makes sense when you start expecting from your MacBook Air according to the specs. I had the 13” M2 Air but switched to 16” M2 MBP for more screen real estate. The 15” Air released about less than a month later. Miss the portability and ease of use of the 13” MBA

Love your content! The only tech reviewer I've found not just talking about the obvious stuff that one already knows about... I am looking to get my next MacBook and do most of my work in Figma as a designer or in VS Code/Terminal/Docker as a developer. I can't seem to make up my mind on Air M3 vs Pro M3 Pro. I've worked on Pro M1 Pro 14", Pro M1 Pro 16" and Air M2 13,6" - all with at least 16Gb RAM and 256Gb SSD. I've found the Air to struggle a bit on my usual work days, and I remember feeling a bit limited on the smaller screens/trackpads of the 13,6" and 14"' models. Therefore, I am considering the Air M3 15" with a 16/512 config. From your experience, do you think I still will have to deal with the same struggles as the Air M2 16/256 config?

Great review. I had a 13" MacBook Air. Its battery died and a few keyboard keys were totally worn. Last week I got a MacBook Air 15", base model, in Starlight (beautiful color) and love it. Perfect size screen with a far better image resolution than the 13", and I don't have to use external speakers anymore. I use my Mac for writing, not video editing. I noticed you have Affinity programs on your Mac, so it will be interesting to see if they respond better on this 15" than the 13".

I just found your channel and really like your delivery of information! Question: Would this laptop be good for Photoshop? I'm a watercolor artist working on editing my art for print on demand sites. I'm using large psb files. This laptop would be dedicated solely for Photoshop and uploading to POD sites. I have a separate ssd for storage and have a usb 3.0 scanner I use. I'm a PC person and not super techy in the least. I've never purchased anything Apple. I know a lot of artists use Apple because the colors in Photoshop are accurate and bright. My current computer is not so looking for a solution. Thank you for your help if you are able to respond : )

Thanks for this. It was reassuring because I'm going to pick this up in a couple of months and my main concern has been getting the base model. Now I'm convinced it will be plenty powerful for me. I'm not a "power user" (been using Chromebooks for the last few years), so I have no doubt the 8/256 model will be great.

Go for it man, I got the MBA 15" 8/256 the next day it came out in India, and it works really well, I have multiple tabs open, excel runs smoothly and I also can edit videos very smoothly, the best part? battery life is amazing, it gives me 10 hours easily and some more. Go for it!

Just unboxed mine today. My only regret is getting the midnight color . The color is nice but the fingerprint issue is worse than I thought. My advice If you like the darker MacBooks maybe go for space gray for a happy medium.

I had it for a quite a while now and its amazing from upgrading from my Intel 2020 MacBook Air! I went with 24gb Ram & 256gb SSD and probably one of the best decisions I made, portability, bigger screen upgraded speakers. I don’t regret it one bit I absolutely love it and it can still do great for video & photo editing very well so for me I don’t see the reason why I would get the “pro” cause Im not sure what consider a person being a “Pro” user unless people use it for gaming

Great review video, Kyle! I bought the 15 inch MBA, and it is a power house. I got the 24GB and 1TB SSD. I am a college student, so this machine is perfect. I use my 2019 MBP for video and photo editing.

@@danielbeltran4174 Battery life on my MBA is pretty good. I did some editing on Final Cut Pro for 30 mins and the battery went down 8%. Not too bad. I don't do a lot of video editing on the MBA like I do on my MBP. The MBA can handle well.

I got the 15 mba and returned it for 14 mbp due to memory pressure and choppiness. Having used them back to back I can say get the 14 mbp if you can. The screen is goosebumps inducing.

Even you max out the memory of 15" mba spec? I see many comparison review uses mba base model vs mbp. I would like to know if maxed out mba can overcome most of the performance issue. I really like the thin and longer battery as I need to move around in office, but requires CPU intensive workload as a software developer.

Your information about the MacBook Air 15" was exactly what I wanted to know. I'm going for the MacBook Air because 15" is the best size for a laptop. The Air is also not too heavy, so it is easy to carry. I also choose the color silver. It is traditionally the Apple color and all my Apple products are also in silver. I also opt for 24GB Ram and 1TB SSD. I like working in PhotoShop and AutoCAD. I also want to run other operating systems on the Mac via Parallels Desktop. A MacBook Pro is not available in 15" and I find it too heavy, even the 14" and too expensive. I think the MacBook Air 15" is the perfect laptop for what I want to do with it.

The performance of my MacBook Air with 24GB Ram and 1TB SSD is very good for the work I do with it. I made the right choice. This laptop is also very energy efficient. And that's what you want. If you choose the color silver, you will not be bothered by fingerprints and you will not even see dust on it. At most on the mirrored Apple logo hahaha!

Great video. I just picked up the 15 inch MacBook Air in Starlight and I went with the 512 SSD. I'm mostly a casual user for web and my writing projects (mostly done in Google docs or sheets) but am getting into some light video editing now and then. Honestly my main reason for upgrading was the larger screen size and it's been wonderful. I use this at home plugged into an Ivanky docking station with a nice curved monitor. I am really happy with it so far...loved my 13 inch M1 MacBook and this just seemed like the most natural step up. Sometime next year I will likely add a Mac Mini when I set up a home office as then I will be starting to do some video stuff but for now we are golden!

@@JimmeeBanks I asked bc I had a similar experience to yours, before 2020 I used to think macs were overpriced, and what could actually be different if they used intel as well, so I used windows pc and laptop my whole life, but after the m1 it was a whole new level, tried a pro 13 m1 back then and having more than 15hrs of battery and no performance drop was something else. Now I got a 15 air 16/512, got it refurb and is just perfect, thought about the 14 but it was too small for me.

Got the MBA 15 recently - previously using an M1 base model. The M1 base model is still perfectly fine for my use case (research, writing, editing, browsing and general use) - it was the main machine for my professional use (which does not include audiovisual workflows). Only thing I did was bump up the storage to 512 because of what I read on the slower storage speed and how that may affect the swap memory. Reason for upgrade: the larger screen makes.a real difference. That said I also looked closely at the new 14in MacBook Pro M3. But I do not need the extra ports, and neither will I use the active cooling. The processor may be speedier than the M2 - but I never stressed the M1 so... My main doubt was 16GB or 512 storage I would not have got for the combination as it is too much off a price bump. If I had the choice in store I probably would have gone for 16GB over the 512 storage - 256 is my sweet spot for storage (also on my iPads and iPhone. My first impressions: it is a very nice screen, perfect size for my needs and very sharp, battery life is exquisite, the now usual great keyboard / trackpad / fantastic build quality and feels a little bit snappier than the Air M1 - but I had no complaints there. Played around with the M3 models in the local Apple Store and the M3Pro chip was probably slightly faster but that would be total overkill for my use.. I cannot recommend this enough

I just bought a second-hand 15-inch Air, coming from a 13-inch Air M1. The bigger screen size is the main reason, and it makes working with large documents much easier. I only do light video editing and don't have too many things running at once, so the base model's fine for me. One thing - I'm just in awe of how thin, and tough this machine is. It's a world apart from the cheap plastic laptops I have to endure at work (I'm a teacher), and second-hand, doesn't cost much more here in the UK. I feel like this machine in ten years ahead. Hell, I've 2009 MacBooks that run better than my school Windows machines! Apart from the 2011s (graphics card disasters) and the butterfly keyboard Macs, not sure Apple have made a bad laptop for at least 15 years.

You can't upgrade it, it's system on a chip so everything is integrated which has it's advantages and disadvantages. There isn't an allocated memory chip for graphics - basically the memory is shared between the CPU and GPU (this is why it's referred to as "unified memory"). I have the 13 inch air and pushed it hard. Houdini, Blender, Final Cut, Logic, Motion, Xcode, Unity, you name it, I probably use it and it works great (and is very fast), It smoked my $4500 intel i9 MacBook Pro 16 inch from late 2019. I lost a lot of respect for a lot of tech KZfaqrs watching them slam the machine without any valid reason.

I went to Best Buy and bought the M1 13” MacBook Air in December 2021 and man I wish I’d have waited.. I’d much rather have gotten the 15” but oh well. I got a base and have had zero issues. I use my computer to stream video and audio. I don’t code or edit video or any of that stuff. I just wanted a portable home entertainment system and I got that and then some. It also cost $899 + tax. My last Dell Latitude E6420 cost $2,200 and even for 2012 it had a terrible display and speakers lol. I loved that Dell til about 2015 but the last five years i absolutely hated it but just didn’t wanna spend money to upgrade.

I’m a software architect and I use Docker and virtualisation a lot (Windows running in Parallels). How does the MBA15 deal with them?

if you're using virtualization, I'd definitely bump up the RAM a little bit and give yourself some breathing room there

@@KyleErickson indeed but unfortunately Apple capped the maximum RAM to 24GB… it should be enough anyways since I would still run the heavy workloads on the MacStudio.

@@axelgenus I'm a software architect too and I've found that 16GB ram is enough for most things. I currently run an M2 Air 13 (16GB / 1TB) and it gets me by for the vast majority of my workload. However, I still have a powerful desktop that I use in the office for anything too demanding (13700K/3070TI/128GB RAM/2TB SSD) such as the really heavy virtualization stuff you are talking about. I have found that if I am running Windows through parallels to create some builds, I often have to allocate 12GB to the VM and I notice a slowdown in macOS when tabbing back and forth. I think that 24GB would have been enough to fix this. I am hoping they allow more RAM with the M3 because I really enjoy using the form factor of the 13 inch air and I don't need just a ton of CPU power most of the time. I also do a lot of writing (novels, research papers, etc...) and this has been so enjoyable to use over the 16 inch M1 Max I used to have and sold. Honestly I haven't had any real issues with it and it's been the best machine i've ever owned (right behind the m1 air I had before it).

I am concidering getting the 15” M2 Air (512gb) for $1249.00 & mainly going to use it for DJ’ing & editing 4K GoPro videos. Not editing that crazy, basic editing. I also don’t care about the rendering time. Do you think the it’s sufficient enough to do that?? I like the bigger screen…especially for DJing because I’m a little further away from Laptop. But I also don’t want to miss out on the M3 chip. I plan on keeping this laptop for 4-5 years and don’t want to be to far behind in technology. I don’t know which one I should get.

Considering the M1 chip is came out 3 years ago and it is still a very, very viable option, I would say the M2 will continue to be great for the next 4-5 years.

as long as you're fine with that level of storage, I'd say that would be fine. Just keep in mind if you end up working in tools like Xcode, things like the derived data folder can get huge if you end up compiling a bunch of apps or versions of a specific app, so that's something you may want to monitor, but in a general sense, it'll work pretty well overall I think

I found a laptop for $549.99, and it is the Lenovo Slim 7i 14". It has Intel Core i7-1260P, 2.8K 90Hz Touchscreen (3.40 GHz, up to 4.70GHz) with 16GB Ram and 1TB SSD W11H Storage. It has a backlit keyboard , Windows 11 Home, and it has Wi-Fi 6. Is this a good laptop? Would this be good compared to the MacBook Air M2?

@@KyleErickson You ‘could’ walk from the east coast to the west coast, but it’s really not the best option. It’s an electronic device, so you can do most things, it’s how palatable the experience is when doing them that’s key. The MBA needs 16GB and 512GB to move along efficiently and that’s the issue. You’ve now just blown $400 you could have put to a better model, that will give you by comparison a much better user experience. You then have the better performance of the pro, so it’s a win:win. The weight difference between to two is nothing. Remove the brick from the back pack and you’re at parity so it’s a none issue. It’s a laptop without purpose in a packed lineup. Apple needs to update the min specs to 16/512GB for all macs, pro models to 24GB or optimise the OS - but then just optimising means multitasking still sucks as you’re not going to get a huge amount back. Let’s be honest, what’s it cost apple? Maybe $5-10 to fix the specs.

@@KyleErickson yes I did, I can’t effectively do what I can do on the more expensive macs in less time or without pain. Base model was returned. Screen is no where near as good, speakers, power, fluid feel, swaps, storing data, processing data. It does everything slower. A MBA from 2010 works and does everyone, so why would you buy a new one over an old one…. Same question back. It’s not a good device. It’s crippled. Which is fine for browsing the web, but so is the 2010 MBA.
