@wingnutbert9685
@wingnutbert9685 4 жыл бұрын
One thing some folks don't think of is keeping the buff wheels covered or take them off and store in a ziplock bag. Dust and grid in the shop gets on the wheels and because it's metal or abrasive particulate, it can be sharp and really hook itself into the wheel cloth and screw up the buffing job. :)

I have a question 😁 After hardening the blade in the oil, do you temper it? Because its not in the video I saw how he brought back the temper colours on the tang, but wouldnt the blade be too brittle if you dont temper it?
@nibbnibb1899
@nibbnibb1899 5 жыл бұрын
Its a chefs knife. Dont need to be temperd because it wont be put trough much stress or punishment. A bushcraftknife on the other hand needs to be tempered. And the tempering on that knife is in many cases more important than the hardening. If you know what i mean. A chefsknife usualy cuts meat and veggies,not wood or hard things.❤🤗

Thanks for answering! I am a knifemaker too, from austria and I was just confused because that part was not in the video. Keep up the great videos and posts, you guys are amazing! @nibb nibb I am a profeasional knifemaker myself and I ALWAYS temper my chef knives. If you are making knives you should consider to temper them too, I am sure your customers will thank you. Because otherwise your edges are way too brittle and are a pain in the ass to sharpen after they got dull!

@@nibbnibb1899 A chef's knife encounters hard things all the time, including the cutting board, lol. I use mine to remove beer bottle caps, smash garlic or nuts on the flat, tenderize meat by chopping with the back spine of the blade, and some even use the heel of the blade to hack into coconuts. Make no mistake, a good chef's knife sees plenty of challenging work, and needs to be tempered.
