Aussie here. I was 15yo when this came out in 1987 so I remember her 7 weeks at number 1 in my country very, very well. Have been a fan ever since, so Im an O.G and def love watching Americans playing catch up and reacting to her herstory of hits 🎉 Fyi: She was still a teenager (19yo) when she 1st released Locomotion in 1987

Sadly, The Locomotion (1988) and Can't Get You Out of My Head (2001) are Kylie's only top 10 hits in the US, peaking at #3 and #7 respectively. She has three more top 40 entries: I Should Be So Lucky (1988, her debut single outside Australia), It's No Secret (1988) and Love at First Sight (2002).

This was a first for me, watching both versions of this video back to back. The Loco-motion was written Carole King and Gerry Goffin. The very first version was recorded in the 1960s by American singer Little Eva.

Watching you become emotional made me almost cry too! Valencia you are becoming bit by bit an expert in Kylie's world!

Overall the updated international version was better sonically but they took her original vocal and multi-layered which saddled her with the reputation of not being able to sing for years after and to some, this still sticks to this day. The reality the vocals were layered to suit the sound of Stock Aitken and Waterman who took that approach with everyone. Her original vocals actually demonstrate she could sing and had a pretty strong voice, lower in key that her SAW material would sound like. Whilst what SAW did with this vocal translated into her first 2 albums and created that distinct Kylie sound it hurt her reputation. She seemed to take some control in Albums 3 and 4 which had less layering in them and she completely ditched this sound when the left SAW from 1994 onwards. Some of the media criticism she endured at this time was shocking and today would rouse a #metoo movement in her defence - back then, everyone was happy to pile onto her.

Truly touched by this reaction, and so lovely to know your grew up with some Kylie as an 80s Kylie really was my idol and still is. ok, here it comes the long one. If I may be honest, I was never particularly fond of this song, and even tho she has always put on different renditions of the song on her different tours throughout the years, it never really stood out for me. However, in 2018, I was lucky enough to attend her Golden tour in London. The tour was to promote her country music inspired album Golden, so that most of the show was more country pop based, and visually was not as extravagant as she is usually known for. There was an act particularly disco themed which was what I enjoyed the most ,and surprising, Locomotion was not only my favorite from the act, also out of the whole show. Not just musically the version was done so freshly, also the choreography, the theme, the image and costumes , to me , the whole act was just perfection , particularly the song. It was not just a excellently planned and executed performance, it captured the essence of who she is on stage, she sings she dances and she brings the fun to people, I could just feel that not only it was the part the audience/her fans resonated the most, but she also was having tons of fun doing it, coz I think she also knows that's what she does the best.

Valencia, I totally agree with you and in fact I get emotional as well. I live in Australia and bought the Fever album in 2002 and I played it over and over but she was making it big in the UK and Europe so I lost track of her sadly. I didn't realise how big she had become OSs. Until just last year I watched the Audience with Kylie at the Royal Albert Hall in London with a celebrity audience. Like the audience there, I was just truly blown away by her incredible great talent. In fact, I think, selfishly, I got emotional like you because I had missed out on her incredible talent for so long in my life. I immediately bought all her CDs and DVDs and I am trying to catch up with the many years I had missed out watching her perform. She is just incredible and can hold the audience in the palm of her hand. I have followed many artists over the years and not realised how good this lady is till now! She is a gem! When I watch the Aphrodite DVD I just get mesmerised and always end the DVD saying to myself, she is AMAZING! Like one of the celebrities in the Audience with Kylie, he says the same. ❤❤❤❤❤

I love your Kylie reactions. it takes me back to the days when I became a fan. Being honest, we all in the US grew up with Kylie in our lives one way or another. I didn't know it, but I recognized her from the movie Street Fighter in 94 with Jean Cluad Van Dammm. She played the video game character Cammy. I also think this song was so popular around that time that used it and her look on The Cosdy show when Vanessa wanted to start a singing group. They were exactly what Kylie would have worn back then. She is 18 in this video.

Great reaction, very emotional. The Locomotion is one of the many songs in Kylie’s canon that she revamps in her live shows. My favourite is the 2019 version which is a mash up with Donna Summer’s Bad girls.

The video of course was re-edited for the 1988 version 😉 And your reaction again made me smile ❤️

The Aussie version, though, it's just so much more fun and energetic than the UK/International version that everyone else got. But glad that this gave you all of those wonderful memories (even if it was from the wrong version lol ;) )
