It would be amazing to see Kobe's record get broken, but really who would want it be done in a game that was already a blowout? I'd argue that actively going for any game-high record in such a game is not something many players or coaches would be proud of, they might even see it as being in bad taste. Take, for example, when Kerr benched Klay after he scored 60pts in three quarters. There's no doubt that Klay had a chance to break 70, maybe even 80 if he played the whole 4th quarter, but at that point the Pacers were already down by 33 by the end of the 3rd. Neither team is really competing anymore, especially with the bench out, so how meaningful and legitimate would breaking 70+ be then? Not very much on either front I'd say. Kobe's record is inevitably going to be broken, but I'd reckon it'll be done in a game that's actually competitive and probably going down to the wire, not one where the other team is already half-dead and a player and his coach chooses to go on anyways.
