When Kyuss opened for Metallica in Australia in 1993 they had a full PA the first show and Metallica’s soundman promised Kyuss they’d have full PA during their set, but quickly changed his mind after Kyuss plugged in and turned on. “We douched them,” Homme laughs. “On a frequency spectrum, we were like a brick wall until you hit the high end-and then there was no high end. I mean, high end is not fun for anybody; you don’t party with high end.”

an incredible band in their most bad ass lineup. brant is a monster on the drum kit, scott reeder totally shredding that rick to pieces, love watching those two playing, such powerful rhythm section. garcia has a stage presence like no one else, just gets into the groove without being typical pompous frontman. homme' s guitar work is completely his own and is instantly recognized. these guys did it the hard way, developed a totally new sound in the middle of know where and then went on to spread the gospel to so many other bands. kyuss were just a viciously talented ensemble of bored teenagers who set their energies to create something positive, instead of burning their cities and inciting civil unrest. awesome upload, thank you for this super rarity.

This was a golden era for rock in Melbourne locally...so many incredible bands...Kyuss won an entire generation of fans with this performance...their sound was more like the sound that was coming out of the city at the time, not Metallica...rougher, grungier, rhythmic, honest... I heard they were told to turn their shit down by Metallica too...can't confirm but heard it from a few different people in the know.... ps I wasn't there...had a ticket, had a once in a lifetime job offer too...turned out I picked the wrong 'once in a lifetime'...

@@hps69 that’s not what underrated means. perhaps most overlooked band every, they are very highly rated, i rarely heard a negative word about them except that their singer isn’t as good as the band.
@smkxodnwbwkdns8369
@smkxodnwbwkdns8369 Жыл бұрын
@@hps69 Literally the most common comment I have read about Kyuss besides wow they’re amazing, is their singer is bad, I can’t stand the singer, I wish someone else sang, etc. even Josh Homme admitted one of the main reasons he left Kyuss is he didn’t like the vocal performance, hence getting Mark Lanegan to sing who was originally supposed to be the lead singer on the first Queens album. His voice is grating, strained, one-dimensional, and lacks expression. It’s not incompetent like Dave Muscatine’s vocals which is an extreme example but its not very good either. I heard he got better after Kyuss and maybe that’s where he earned the reputation you’re talking about. Underrated/overrated has nothing to do with popularity per say, it has to do with the degree their reputation is generally positive or negative, is a way to put it. Hence the word RATED which means to rate. It has to do with esteem and value. The way massive amounts of people misusing the word is not unlike how most people misused the word irony a decade or so ago, which seems to have stopped incredibly. Now that I think about it, it temporarily slipped my mind that metal bands got no respect from critics. So actually Kyuss was underrated, but it has nothing to do with your definition of not being “well known like other rock bands” and it looks like you later tried to dishonestly fudge the argument by inserting “critics” into your new definition which has nothing to do with your initial comment I was correcting neither explicitly nor implied.

They came from punk and they managed to put together hardcore, psychedelia and heavy rock in something so awesome. It's indescriptible. Don't have the words, except that, everything that, John, Brant & Josh gave in the future is worse listening to. Everything, from QOTSA to Slo Burn and Brant's Low Desert Punk.
