This is for keyless fobs. If your door doesn't automatically unlock when your approach and/or you don't have keyless push to start that requires the fob to be in range, chances are your fob isn't constantly emitting a signal. key fobs that aren't keyless also use something called "rolling codes" which makes it a lot more difficult to copy a signal that will work more than once (and it also won't work if you use your fob before they do since the signal will then change from the rolling code)

if you have keyless go you would need to take the key out of the pouch to use it to authenticate and start the car so the code grabbers could be used at that time or just before you shut off the car as it is pinging the key the whole time.

Had a problem twice with this years back with my 2004 Mazda. The dealership then told me to NEVER use the keyfob to lock the car, as that's when lowlifes pick up its signal and copy it. So lock that car manually.
@HoomanPlays
@HoomanPlays 5 ай бұрын
They told you wrong. This video is about keyless push to start cars. Your fob that only locks and unlocks your door when you push a button uses something called "rolling codes" which changes the signal every time, doesn't matter if they copied the signal when you used it because that signal is like an already punched punch card, it won't work.

Avoid buying the top five most stolen makes: Acura/Honda, Lexus/Toyota, Jeep/Dodge, Land Rover and Ford. Next, use a steering wheel club lock. And if you can, stick to older vehicles with physical, metal ignition keys - you can still get nice VWs, Nissan, Subarus, GM and others from 2018 or so thus equipped. This will decrease the odds of your car being stolen. Bonus points if you drive a manual transmission. For example, no one in Africa wants your 2017 Mitsubishi RVR with 2wd and manual shift.

This is only a problem with cars that have a push button start feature the thief doesn’t need your keys to start the car due to signal duplication. If you have an actual key to start your vehicle. This wont be a problem. They can maybe steal the signal to access your car, but not to start it they would have to hotwire it for that or use the key….
@HoomanPlays
@HoomanPlays 5 ай бұрын
Stealing the signal to access your car is pretty hard because keyfobs like that use something called rolling codes. The signal they steal would already not work because when you used it the fob will now emit a different signal the next time you use it and your car will only accept that newer signal.

they are not copying the key signal (relay attack). they are using a Autel KM100 or IM508 an android tablet key programmer along with the blank universal keys that you see in the thumbnail of this video. it plugs into the OBD port and an additional connector under the glovebox and it can brute force the ECU and create a new key. orignally this stuff is for locksmiths to perform a "all keys lost" repair. but theives realized they can just invest $500 to buy one of their own and get as many cars as they want. it doesnt work with every car, but any common car older than 2016 is likely to have been added to its functionality. and the newer american cars like camaros/challengers because american car companies dont update their stuff

@HoomanPlays yeah plus even if they were able and got the car started without the key they still wouldn't be able to drive the vehicle.
