Mattie the Goose Boy (Lúdas Matyi) is a comic narrative poem written by Mihály Fazekas in 1804. It is an adaptation of recurring tale motifs of the time, characterized by a peasant hero taking revenge on an unjust landlord.
The story was inspired by the Enlightenment and reflects the rebellious spirit of the late 18th century. It is about the confrontation between the rich and the poor, where the first group is represented by the powerful lord Döbrögi, the latter by the witty young serf, Mattie the goose boy.
