I LOVE the way I have no idea what they are saying in French but I understand it from the ballet terminology and the movements themselves. Ballet is a universal language xxx

The best thing about this documentary is the way they contrast the students with the professionals, showing how each exercise is designed with specific goals in mind. It's lovely!

the girl in the middle at the end is Ghislaine Fallou. She was 14 at the time but already a graduating student. She had to repeat the year, however, in order to join the corps the ballet because at 14 she was still too young. I think the other girls are a bit older than her, between 15 and 17.

L'une des plus étoiles depuis longtemps je ne veux sous estimer les autres étoiles mais sans doutes ses profs on du voir en elle une future étoiles et donc sans doutes l'on bcp poussé à aller plus loin!

It is a cultural thing that is a little difficult to explain. The way your explain the translation however is very accurate and your key to understanding them. To fully be in total control of your body is not only a physical excercise but a mental one. In Russia (and with Russian teachers) in order to do well and not injure yourself you have to work smart not just hard. They may never say this but they want you to draw that conclusion. You know your limits and how to push yourself beyond them.

Ankles don't hurt during jumps, but ankles can often feel strained on pointe when transition from flat to releve. That's why dancers on pointe are required to acquire significant ankle strength first.

@xSugarplum Yes you are right that anyone what can point their foot correctly, but what she is saying is that there are people who have a high arche (" coup-de pied") and then she asked the girl to curl her foot to try to imitate how people without a high aches may seem when their foot is pointed, demonstrating that the line is cut. She is not talking about pointing your foot correctly.
