Gordon Murray low-profile design. MP4/4 Honda turbo V6, the best engine of the turbo era. And Prost and Senna, the two absolute best drivers of that era. A match made in heaven.

W McLaren !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! La tifo da quando avevo 3anni. Bellissimo filmato. Non avrei mai creduto che i migliori filmati della McLaren potessero venire da un italiano. Ho fatto un video in cui sorpasso una Ferrari con una C4. Forse può piacerti. Grazie del lavoro e forza McLaren !!!!!!!!!

Mi fà letteralmente schifo la Formula 1 moderna. Dal 1 maggio 1994 in poi per mè la formula 1 è morta. Dove sono finiti i vari SENNA, PROST, MANSELL, PIQUET, BERGER, ALESI, PATRESE, NANNINI, MARTINI, MODENA.... Schumacher non lo nomino xchè lo detesto, sia come uomo, sia come pilota.... COMPLIMENTI a chi hà pubblicato questo STUPENDO video. PERSONA intelligente e COMPETENTE... Grazie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nell'estate del 1977 tra le tende della Formula 1 si affacciò un pilota dallo sguardo dolce e dal cuore impavido, salì sul filo con la sua Ferrari e per cinque anni lo percorse fra capriole e piroette. Poi un giorno scese ed entrò nella leggenda... Era Gilles Villeneuve.

It originally stood for Malboro Project 4, but since Malboro was dropped it's been conveniently changed to McLaren Project 4. McLaren in 1988 was an absolute dream team. No other team in Formula One history had a better car and two driver combo in a single year.The MP4/4 was arguably the greatest Formula One car ever in respect to its competitors, and Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were without a doubt two of the best Formula One drivers to live.

Non conosco bene le percentuali ma tra le macchine ammazza mondiale come le gia' citate Ferrari F2002 e F2004 bisogna ricordare la bellissima e velocissima Williams FW14B.(per intenderci quella con le sospensioni attive) Complimenti per il video.

Yes, we could be friends. Most people I know that enjoy F1 don't know nothing before 2000. I have read about all the seasons and know of all the great legendary races which took place long before I was even born.

Non vi è dubbio su questo, avevo solo il sospetto che cascavi nella trappola di pepperino, lui è molto bravo a farti mettere l'attenzione su qualcos'altro quando lo metti di fronte ad un evidenza di torto palese. Ma se non ci sei cascato, meglio così!

@Conquerer13 The car was designed by Gordon Murray an engineering genius. His low profile designed had been tried on the 1986 Brabham but the engine ruined the centre of gravity because it was tilted. Not so in the 1988 McLaren. It also had the best engine in the Honda V6 Turbo. And let's not forget the strongest driver line up in the history of the sport Senna and Prost. Also unlike when a certain other team dominated, McLaren let its two drivers compete against each other. Great year.

TheStrategist01- Mclaren built the car. They just threw the beautiful little Honda engine in there when the BMW didn't fit right. Hell I wouldn't have it any other way

La forza di questa McLaren erano i due piloti... Ayrton Senna è stato il più grande di tutti i tempi... Alain Prost d'altro canto non era uno scarsone alla guida quindi... Sicuramente bellissima... la più forte forse non proprio... Forza Ferrari...

Most successful model in F1 was the McLaren M23, which won 16 races between 1973-1977. The MP4/4 would have won 16 too if not for Schlesser in Monza.

the March 881, designed by Adrian Newey, in the 1988 season was a damn fine car too which sadly was underpowered by the Judd V8 Capelli actually managed to lead a race in that one and caught up the McLaren's in one race. The March 881 was innovative in it's "female shape" of its body, which later became the norm

If not for Jean-Louis Schlesser failing to check his rearview mirrors when Senna was about to lap him in the final laps of the Italian GP in 1988, then the MP4/4 would have had 16 straight wins. Senna would have had 9 wins that season and he would have been crowned champion earlier. Not to mention Prost and Senna RACED each other for the title. Senna was made for the turbo era. He could qualify those monsters better than anybody.

Formula 1, 24 Ore di Le Mans e 500 Miglia di Indianapolis sono considerate le tre più prestigiose competizioni automobilistiche in assoluto, altro che coppa del nonno :) La Ferrari è il team più titolato della Formula 1 e questo è assodato, però anche le altre categorie sono importanti. Vincere la Mille Miglia 8 volte e la 24 Ore di Le Mans 9 mica è da tutti! Sono vittorie che aumentano il prestigio della Rossa. L'unico trofeo che ci manca in bacheca è la 500 Miglia di Indianapolis, peccato...

15 victories out of 16 races, 10 one-twos, 1003 LAPS IN THE LEAD OUT OF 1031! The green-eyed monster of envy has been eating you since that iper-dominant season by McLaren and so I'll just let you fry in your abnormous jealousy. That 1988 drove you crazy and your liver was simply destroyed, just as were all our rivals in '88! MP4/4 best F1 car ever, guitargamery best jealous ever.

as i said other times 1990 was one of the most interesting season under technical and sportive view. Honda had still an engine advantage, Ferrari chassis was more advanced than McLarens, each team had top drivers. So it all dependet on which circuits the did run: street circuits and tracks with long straights and chicanes were McLaren territory, tracks with long corners and relatively short straights were friendly for Ferrari. Jerez certainly was a Ferrari track, but old Silverstone even more.

16 straight wins if not for Schlesser crashing into Senna who had led for 49 out of 51 laps the MP4/4 's only serious contender could have been the Benetton with a turbocharged Ford, but Benetton strangely opted for the naturally aspirated Ford V8 for 1988 (they claimed they wanted more experience for 1989) McLaren's own personel admitted later they couldn't believe their luck when Benetton didn't use the Ford Turbo engine

Ferrari didn't win the Indianapolis 500 in 1952,which WAS part of the Formula 1 championship in 1950-1960. In fact Alberto Ascari missed a race in Switzerland to compete with the Ferrari Special in Indianapolis 1952. He qualified 19'th and retired after 40 of the 200 laps with a failed wheel bearing. Sorry if you pointed this out. I don't speak italian.

Ferrari learned from the Prost/Mansell experience, and from this point onward they focused on ONE dominant driver having the perfect number 2 alongside him Neither Irvine, nor Barrichello were considered champion materials before joining Ferrari and they intentionally signed as "number 2 support driver", As for Massa, he is a modern day Damon Hill, wins only from pole and if he takes the start. Mansell declined the 1993 season in the dominant Williams when he heard Prost had been signed.

i know you are a Prost fan and have to give Alain what he deserved. Ferrari management was a desaster with Cesare Fiorio. In Rio 89 Fiorio wanted to start with half filled tanks as reliability was incredibly low. They were nearly sure to abort the race and only Mansell really shouted to Fiorio "in racing you never know" so finally Cesare ordered to start with full tank (pit stops those years were not allowed). In fact, like a wonder the semi automaticgearbox did not broke down and Ferrari won!

the unlucky tyre blowout while comfortably leading in the last race of 1986 robbed Mansell of a well deserved title then again gearbox trouble robbed Reutemann of a well deserved 1981 title too...

i agree luciano, but do not forget Honda engine. In Italy they were very disturbed because of that, they thought Ferrari engine has to be the strongest, but it wasn't so. In modern F1 i have never seen such a difference in engine power,. Honda engine in Imola 89 was so beautiful that even Senna had nice words for it which was not usual. okay again 1993 Renault vs. Ford, but only because Honda retirement. Hondas advantage became smaller 1990and 1991 they were in trouble but reacted very well.

to continue with 1989 explanation. I say dominance was not so clear although numbers were impressive. why i do that? when you argue with pole positions you have to take in account non only Sennas ability but also one thing that disappeared from 92 on: qualifying tyres. this tyres allowed to cover for one lap chassis disadvantages as they were so incredibly soft to build up a huge grip. In race the real speed of a car come much more to surface. A good example is Estoril.

i consider Estoril while it is a track were engine power plays not a dominating role so you can deduce chassis qualities. Other ones are Jerez, Paul Ricard, Silerstone, maybe Interlagos and Mexico.

Has to be the strongest F1 team of all times Senna, Prost and the MP4/4. 15 of 16 races won. Guess is was faith that Ferrari got frist and second in the last one, being that this was the year Enzo Ferrari died.

in Estoril 89 Senna was on pole with a 6 tens margin to Berger in the Ferrari, in race however he could not hold Ferrari's speed. In Estoril 90 both Ferrari occupied first row, but Senna was only 0,05 behind Mansell and 0,006 behind Prost. So in qualifying he was competitive, but not in race. race simply was a clear Ferrari affair, without discussion. only an unlucky Ferrari start allowed Senna to reach second place, otherwise maximum result was a 3rd place.

hi pepperism, i argue i was not so evident. The numbers i know, be sure. As luciano said they had also the best drivers. I don't deny it was a dominance, that would be stupid, but it was a dominance not based on whole package as for ex. 88 or Williams 92, 93, Ferrari from 2000 on... MP 4/5 maintened a conservative chassis approached which was not up to date (vertical absorbers instead of horizontal on Ferrari, inhomogene aerodynamic).

Hai ragione, su Indianapolis avevo un'informazione sbagliata. Tu insistevi sul fatto che la McLaren fosse riuscita a vincere tutte le gare meno una, io facevo notare il fatto che ci fosse riuscita anche la Ferrari (ben prima della McLaren), sebbene con altre modalità e in un'epoca in cui la Formula 1 era totalmente diversa da quella che conosciamo oggi. PS: ma la canzone "Ciao Ciao Cavalli" è una metafora o l'hai scelta solo perché ti piaceva? :D

that is often forgetten, it was a drivers and engine dominance. MP4/4 was dominant, okay, but MP4/5 dominance was not so clear. In fact, Ferrari chassis was better. you can see it on a circuit like Estoril where horse power is not so important. That race Ferrari was dominating. Honda engine had surely 30-50 hp more. It was really a bomb and allowed team to set up very big rear wings. notice rear wings those years were very different from one car to another, today they are very similar.

you are probably right, peperism. Prost was known as a very applicated and methodic driver. He changed instantly certain bad Ferrari abitudes for ex. engine when leaving gas continued to push. Prost in his first test sessions stopped that. Mansell and Berger such details did not take too much, but in fact a number of details can make difference. I am missing only one word in your last statement "wouldn't have been so competitive in 1990". After all Ferrari chassis was better than McLarens.

well, 86 and 87 McLaren was not dominating...in 86 war between Mansell and Piquet was a poison drivers championship, so Prost benefied. In 87 Williams was so dominating their drivers could take points from each other and win anyway, in fact end of the year 1. Piquet, 2. Mansell...

Non è esatto. Anche la Ferrari riuscì a vincere tutte le gare meno una, stagione 1952. Saltò il GP degli Stati Uniti (allora era la 500 Miglia di Indianapolis) perché venne disertata dai costruttori europei.

clean your ears, pepperism, i did say dominance yes, but not so clear. Ferrari chassis was better, but had an inferior engine. And again, you do not answer on what i basically said: Senna and Prost were the best drivers in the field, with that drivers a dominance seems to be stronger than it was.

Ho conosciuto tanta gente che voleva "avere ragione a tutti i costi" e ciò fà parte dell'essere umano e non ci vedo nulla di strano. Negare le evidenze è diverso.
