What a lovely piece, such gorgeous mellow sounds from the oboe, bassoon and three horns. I never knew Beethoven wrote this. It is always good when the great composers' lesser-known works get an airing. I was just watching a video of a Norwegian trio of piano bassoon and oboe playing the Trio Opus 11, which I'm assuming was originally written for piano violin and cello. I love the sound of the wind instruments together.

Such a wonderful piece and recording. That such a rare and beautiful little flower could ever receive 6 thumbs down, even after 8 years since having been posted is such a blow to the heart for me. With all that went into the composition and performance found here, leaves one only to be appreciative, so one might hope. The world is a dismal and dark place with only such things as the heartfelt renderings found here to shine a little light. That anyone should ever turn away from it, even momentarily, may I never put my trust in them unless they first, either consider the folly of their youthful criticisms, or perhaps, the sadness of their embittered hearts.

Gerry Hofman I actually have preformed this piece before on a colleges senior college recital. I played the second horn part. I enjoyed it immensely.

Only part of the manuscript survives. The exposition of the first movement is a reconstruction, as is most of the Minuet apart from about 19 bars. There was no doubt a finale originally.

Yes, indeed. He wrote a number of wind instrument works, before he began writing string quartets at about thirty years of age. The trio in C op 87 for two oboes and cor anglais is one of my favorites among all of his works.
