A little bit longer video this week. My wife said that I should explain more, which I think is a bit silly since I am the last person from whom anyone should be taking advice. But, here we are. In this video we machine and fit an L0 backplate to a small Bison chuck to be used on the 15" Regal. Please don't hesitate to comment, on anything, or leave advice, tips, etc. Whether it be about the machining, the video, whatever, please don't hesitate to share.
I am learning all of this, so all advice and criticism is welcome. Thanks!

Great video. Well done. Nice fit on the boss in the mounting plate. So important. Great job crunching the numbers on the circle. (Mech. engineer here: In Australia at least, we call it a 'PCD' for Pitch Circle Diameter.) I'm always grappling with the metric/imperial conversions too - only the other way around, as we're a metric shop, in Australia. Ongoing headache... Thank God for DROs if you need to drill any hole pattern on a PCD. (Obviously the PCD isn't that critical because the boss locates the chuck concentrically to the spindle - the cap screws just clamp it in place, and there's clearance, so a few thou either way is probably inconsequential. Still, it would be nice if all chucks came with the mounting PCD stamped on the body somewhere.)

Thanks very much! And yep, I couldn't agree more. How hard would it be to just stamp the PCD on the body somewhere? Sure would be useful because we all know these things tend to float from one machine to another over the years. Greeting from the states btw, and thank you for watching!

Thanks very much! BCD, got it. :) Also much easier to say, I was seriously fumbling over "bolt hole pattern"... haha.

well done. Cast iron is a real joy to machine, super messy though.Or it's nice so long as you don't have too many hard spots. I've been milling some old rough casting to turn into a scraping practice piece, and wore out what was a pretty sharp slab cutter. By the way, that's a real well done video, good sound and editing, good shots too.

Yeah, cast iron is nice to machine, but the mess it makes is almost enough to offset the machinability entirely lol. I actually scored a couple of old cast iron surface plates not too long ago that I really would like to work on and scrape so I can use them in the shop. Hopefully can get around to that soon, but am apprehensive that I'll just make em worse haha. And thank you SO MUCH for the kind words about the video. I have struggled to learn this whole video editing thing and feel like I'm just stumbling my way through it. So to get such positive feedback about it, well it's really encouraging, and motivating. So thank you for that.

Excellent video. Do you remember the seller you purchased the back plate from on eBay? Would the plate be thick enough for an adjust-tru chuck? Thank you!

Thanks very much, I appreciate it! And I believe the seller is "CME Tools". Also, I purchased another one just like it and am currently using it on my 6 jaw adjust-tru with no issues. There's plenty enough meat on them. Side note, buying the blank and machining it to work saved me literally hundreds of dollars over buying an actual "adjust-tru" back plate. Totally worth every penny lol.

Hi, great videos! Any other source to get same cast iron back plate other than eBay?
