Elephant foot yam (Amorphophallus peaoniifolious) locally known as oula and Aamakam (Garo) is basically an underground stem tuber .Its cultivation is more or less limited to India and the North East. It has both the nutritional and medicinal value and is usually consumed as cooked vegetable. It grows well on a variety of soil but well drained sandy loam & sandy clay loam soil with near the pH (6-7) is ideally suited for the crop. Elephant foot yam becomes ready in about 8-9 months time after planting. The crops attains maturity when total senescence take place.
