James Pian that is what the rule states and in this game or a game with your mates you would class it as ‘fairly’. I can only help the audience by saying that if a player walks in and takes his or her stance the same way that Rory does in a Tournament then they will be penalised under rule 13-2. In this situation you have to be very careful when taking your stance, you can’t just stroll in stamping down on long grass/bushes. I hope this helps.

Dan Hendriksen Golf “I agree with Mr Plian and would contest (as one who has officiated at USGA Amateur Championships) that Rory took proper care in attempting take a natural stance along the intended line of play. He might have even contested taking a stance at more of a right angle to play more safely than hitting it out of bounds as he did. I would also suggest that your group regularly violate order of play and requesting information on clubs hit, etc. without Rory interrupting them when they are about to play. As pros, an official might suggest that playing companions can protect the field by advising the player prior to taking his stance the provisions of the applicable rule
