I am excited to have this video on youtube. This piece is from one of my favourite multi-movement works for Classical Guitar. This is the third movement, Allegro Solemne from the great piece La Catedral by Paraguayan Agustin Barrios Mangore, who was perhaps the greatest guitarist composer who ever lived.
I first heard this piece when I was becoming more advanced on the classical guitar and I immediately wanted to play it. I must say it took me quite a while to get my fingers around it mainly because I wasn't used to a lot of the techniques that it required, and simply, my hands weren't trained well enough to play it particularly well. I kept playing it over the years and used it as a performance piece at university, and now I've recorded it for you to listen to here. It really is a stunning piece of virtuoso guitar. There is a surviving recording of Barrios playing it at 200mph. It really shows just how good a guitarist he was, as well a phenomenal composer.
This piece was recorded recently at Rokit Studios in West London. The recording and video engineering was done by Mark Rose.
The guitar I used is a 2011 Filipe Conde FP14 NA CW, made in Madrid.
