La coccarda italiana azzurra è uno degli ornamenti rappresentativi dell'Italia ottenuta pieghettando circolarmente un nastro azzurro. Derivante dal Blu Savoia, la coccarda azzurra è rimasta ufficialmente in uso fino al 1º gennaio 1948, quando è stata proclamata la Repubblica, essendo poi stata sostituita, in tutte le sedi ufficiali, dalla coccarda tricolore. In ambito militare, la coccarda italiana azzurra è stata sostituita da quella tricolore durante il secolo precedente, il 14 giugno 1848, nel corso della Prima Guerra d'Indipendenza.
The Italian blue cockade is one of the representative ornaments of Italy obtained by circularly pleating a blue ribbon. Deriving from Savoy Blue , the blue cockade remained officially in use until 1 January 1948, when the Republic was proclaimed, having then been replaced, in all official sites, by the tricolor cockade. In the military field, the Italian blue cockade was replaced by the tricolor one during the previous century, on June 14, 1848, during the First War of Independence.
La coccarda azzurra è citata nel componimento musicale Inno al Re, scritto dal poeta Giuseppe Bertoldi nel 1847. Carlo Alberto inizialmente aveva avversione nei confronti del tricolore, ma il 23 marzo 1848, fece diventare la bandiera verde, bianca e rossa il vessillo ufficiale del Regno di Sardegna. L'Inno al re fu cantato per la prima volta a Genova il 3 novembre 1847. Celebra la liberalizzazione del Regno di Sardegna voluta dal Re e l'inizio delle tendenze indipendentistiche italiane che culmineranno nella Prima Guerra d'indipendenza, che purtroppo fallirà. Il Re Carlo Alberto sarà costretto all'esilio.
The blue cockade is mentioned in the musical composition Hymn to the King, written by the poet Giuseppe Bertoldi in 1847. Carlo Alberto initially had an aversion towards the tricolor, but on March 23, 1848, he made the green, white and red flag become the official banner of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The "Hymn to the King" was sung for the first time in Genoa on November 3, 1847. It celebrate the liberalization of the Kingdom of Sardinia wanted by the King and the beginning of the Italian independence tendencies that will culminate in the First War of Independence, which unfortunately will fail. King Charles Albert was forced to into exile.
