La Grave. A Love Story.

Жыл бұрынMountain guide Giulia Monego, pro skier Chad Sayers, and outdoor photographer Christoffer Sjöström all have a chapter in their life story written on the elusive north walls of La Meije, shadowing the small farming village of La Grave, France. Last winter, they met for a joint adventure on this mythical mountain. As new memories were created, they realized La Grave had changed, and more people had found their way to this unique place over the years. But even if the infamous itineraries are getting skied more often - the ambiance and the ski culture of La Grave remain the same.

My mate and I stayed at La Chaumine in the mid-90's (I think just after it first opened) and spent a week skiing with these guys. I must confess I've never been so scared in my life on a pair of skis on that mountain... it's awesome. Nearly died after a nasty fall in the Banana couloir so we took it a little easy after that... fun times.

V.dependent on the snow. I just came back from La Grave & none of the couloirs down to the valley floor were open. Nor was the St.Christophe run. Or for most of the week the top drag lift to access the Girose Glacier. And the top P2 lift was incredibly slow some days, taking over an hour to travel to the top, plus one day the whole lift system was closed. Apparently it'd been like that or worse for most of the season due to low snowfall. You can of course travel to nearby resorts, but they were also somewhat lacking in snow.
