I watched the performance live on the TV, and it touched my soul deeply beyond words I could express for the first time ever. I wasn't even French. I guess this is what the magic of the music and this magnificent arrangement brings. This has marked the end of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics so beautifully. The world is still very much connected and beat together as one. Bravo, Tokyo 2020 & Paris 2024.

The lyrics are horribly nationalistic. They hold a great meaning in terms of history, it's a revolution's war cry, but it is still a war cry that begs for blood. It feels like an updated vrsion is well over due. But the melody is still as beautiful as ever, so there's that.

We the people of Japan were so disappointed that we could not do what we initially planned to do in Tokyo 2020 opening/closing ceremonies. But we were so excited to watch this footage from Paris in our closing ceremony and we are certain that Paris 2024 will be a great success. Bonne chance, Paris!

Tokyo did NOT disappoint at all! It was certainly my favourite Olympics of modern time. And I knew Japan would be the country who could pull off such an impossible feat in the midst of a global pandemic. Love from India❤️ PS: Eagerly waiting for France and it's elegant Paris Olympics!

Je découvre Victor le Masne avec l'hymne des J.O.... mais aussi cette Marseillaise avec...2 ans de retard ! Mon neurone a du mal, j'avoue. Mais alors là....j'en ai encore des frissons, c'est beau, dénué de violence tout en restant fort, bien au delà de ce qu'avait fait Berlioz, mais autres temps, autres moeurs. Là, c'est adapté, dans l'air du temps, joliment illustré. Fier d'être Français ? Sans conteste, pour beaucoup de raisons en fait. C'est étrange mais prégnant, et cet hymne balaie tout sur son passage. Merci!

@@Prontalgik le gouvernement algérien force beaucoup sur la guerre d'Algérie ducoup sa passe pas beaucoup entre la france et l'algerie sans ajouter les nationaliste algerien qui disent que la tour eiffel a été faite avec du fer algérien (c'est un exemple parmi tant d'autre) . @@adminjamie La Marseillaise has been our national anthem from 1795 to 1804 during the 1st Republic (Between the revolution and the 1st Empire) and came back since 1879 (3rd Republic). But the song was written by Rouget de Lisle in 1792 as a war chant against Austria and was originally used by the Army of the Rhine. Hope I could help !

Love and greetings from China. I watched this on TV and loved it so much that I searched it on KZfaq and watched it again and again. Each country has its own defining culture, and the Olympics are a great vehicle for the host country to showcase it. The French have done an extraordinary job. The choice of Marseillaise comes as no surprise, but the rendering is epic, elegant, and evocative. The aerial filming, the selection of musical instruments (especially flute at the beginning, marimba and timpani in the middle, and saxophone at the end), the indoor (not least at Musée du Louvre) and outdoor settings: everything is just perfect. The most immensely surprising and gratifying moment comes when the camera moves skyward and when viewers think the show's over, Thomas Pesquet appears, playing saxophone from outer space. No doubt this last scene of serenity and timelessness will live in the memories of many. Bravo to all the performers. Looking forward to the Paris 2024 Olympics!

Le contraste, la légèreté de la flûte et de la pédale des violons et la vivacité des cuivres, l'harmonie qui module à certains passage, cette accompagnement des cordes qui valsent comme la surface d'une rivière. Ça sonne tellement l'aventure, les émotions d'espoir et d'accomplissement. C'est un pur chef d'œuvre contemporain ! C'est juste incroyable, j'ai pas de mots pour décrire cette magnificence musicale ! La plus belle des Marseillaise jamais interprétée, encore plus forte en émotion que celle de la finale de France 98. Et que dire de Thomas Pesquet... Une marseillaise stratosphérique qui propulse Paris 2024 dans les étoiles !

This song in its dramatic form still feels a tad too beautiful to have originally been a call to war rally. And this Olympic rendition was pretty, and peaceful. On top was Thomas Pesquet doing an ultimate space chill.

La chair de poule en entendant cette version à la cérémonie de clôture, la relance avec le rythme au xylophone était super bien pensée et j'adore tellement l'entrée du piano qui appuie la basse tout en faisant virevolter sa main droite. La Marseillaise n'a jamais été aussi classe et élégante.

Je suis coree et je parles francais tres un peu. Mais la chanson est tres magnifique. Listening to La Marseillaise makes me more patriotic than listening to own korean national anthem. Vive La France!

La présentation de Paris 2024 aux Jeux olympiques et paralympiques de Tokyo 2020 était incroyable. J'étais excité. Je ne peux pas attendre. La conception du logo est également excellente. J'admire la France. Je ne parle pas français, alors j'utilise un logiciel de traduction pour écrire.
