You forgot to mention which way to orient the gasket! The ridged part faces down! Flat part faces up.

I always thought that after a backflush with soap, you need to do the same without soap. So I do 10 x backflush with soap and 10 x without soap. Then I make an espresso that I through away, and that should do the job.

It certainly never hurts to be thorough! There are certainly folks here that do a water backflush or two to ensure the cleaner is totally rinsed out. That said, the Urnex Full Circle cleaner we use and sell is entirely food safe.

Does anyone remove their gasket to clean, before it's worn out? I swear mine isn't working as well as it used to and it cannot be worn out yet. Any chance grounds can get up in it's business if someone didn't close the seal well enough and pulled an explodey shot?

New silicone ones are squishy and pop out if needed, do you use a blind during shift? Or in general to rinse the gasket? It also helps to wipe rim of the basket to remove grinds

For home users, once a year is perfect. For commercial use, you're looking at a quarterly swap.

why do you soak surgical stainless steel?

Assuming you're referring to the dispersion screen: Coffee residue can build up on the dispersion screen just as it bulids up on other areas of the group head. Since it is pressed right up against the puck and has some nooks and crannies, backflushing may not always get it entirely clean. Soaking it occasionally can help get it completely clean.

@@clivecoffee portafilter is wiped clean with a damp cloth, same goes for baskets. Screens are a bit different, unless you scouring your portafilters i dont see a need to soak?

@@ZaJaClt Put one in some puro caff and see how much residue fizzes off. Personally, that's why I do it sometimes. Just to clean everything I can of old coffee that can taint the flavor. As far as I'm concerned, if it can hang out, and join a general flavor profile, and I can unscrew it and clean it, I'm going to go with that option. That said I don't do it every time.

@@breaddrinker if you wipe Thought the day, especially with vst or other precision baskets, which come out much quicker. Surgical stainless steel is you know, stainless. Wiping with a cloth is enough unless you let it cake in

@@clivecoffee portafilter. Which in this case isn't brass but pure steel.
