A tour of the La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Arizona, a beautifully restored Harvey House Hotel on Route 66 and the Santa Fe Railroad. This video tells about the history of the hotel and it's architect, Mary Jane Colter. I explored the hotel, ate at the Turquoise Room, and viewed some interesting artwork by Tina Mion, including some of her unique First Ladies portraits.

When I was a kid this was the Santa Fe office, and we would go there to pick up my dad's check. Beautiful.

I first visited the hotel in the late 90’s when the Santa Fe still had working offices in the building. There were only two rooms on the second floor above reception. The neighborhood was pretty run down.

I stayed there about 5-6 years ago. Just an incredible place. The restaurant was excellent as well. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Nice little bar as well. The artwork was really interesting as were the furnishings all around the hotel. The rooms were also really nice with furnishings that matched the history of the place. I would love to go back some day.

@@hoosiertours Surprising. This is easily one of the busiest rail routes in the US. There can be the occasional 1-2 hour lull, but generally every 20 minutes or so and many times, 3 or 4 trains parked there (Winslow is a crew change.)

imagine the hotel without the walkway and walls , in between the two wings that is how the real la posada was not all this mess thats here now

Yeah a lot of these historic hotels had lots of additions built over the years. That means more people can stay and it generates lots more income for the hotel, but it does permanently change the original look. Thank you for watching!

@@hoosiertours I USed to work there when it was the division office bldg for the santa fe railroad. the top wing has a bunch of rooms used by officals to stay in when theyre in winslow on busines. then the railroad gave it to the city of winslow who transferred to some rich guy who renovated the whole building . laposada never been in it since ., they say the food is good at the turqoise room
