+SixtySecond Yoga its poor advetising no-one knew about trouble in paradise (but it got to number 2 on the album chart for a short period.) (but mainly it was the record company as it was unknown to many of her fans that new music was released)

+Kaia Johnson perhaps out of favor with main stream but holds a spot on my charts but then again i love her hair so if she hadnt the talent and just that id probally still watch but the fact there are sevral of the songs on first album i adore does help matters and she is amazeing and probally can keep some of her privicy if she aint all blown up a blessing i would think lol though if i ever did see her i would want a autograph =)

fuck what "people" think is relevant, relevant is shallow meaningless music with no message and no lasting effect. personally I think if an artist isnt widely known or has become "irrelevant" that they probably getting to show us there truest self without bullying or interference from the business side of showbiz.

This stuff still slaps in 2023. I suspect it’ll always be good to travel back in time with our minds…
@WoodlandAsh10 ай бұрын
Reminds me of the quote from the movie time machine where it talks about our own time machines: memories taking us into the past & dreams into the future. The truth is that music paints time as art paints space, so it’s easy to be pulled back to certain moments. For me this song was the ‘salve’ when i released the guy who I’d spent months falling over myself to please, help, do things for was straight and just enjoyed having a servant to do things for him. Youth is full of folly heh.
@keness476810 ай бұрын
@WoodlandAsh well I think we've all been there at one time or another. I can recall a time being so desperate to make a relationship work out to complete some empty, unfulfilled part of myself. The irony is, when we grow to understand ourselves and work on our own failings, partners notice, and everything falls into place. La roux's been there... I can hear it in the emotion she sang with.

LYRICS: “I'm Not Your Toy" Love, love is like a stubborn youth That you'd rather just deny I'm walking on a broken roof While I'm looking at the sky It's all false love and affection You don't want me, you just like the attention Yes, it's all false love and affection You don't like me, you just want the attention I'm not your toy And this isn't another girl meets boy [2x] Love, love hides in a smoky light I can never find the truth Boy, your touches leave me mystified I wish I could believe in you Yes, it's all false love and affection You don't want me, you just like the attention Yes, it's all false love and affection You don't like me, you just want the attention [4x] I'm not your toy And this isn't another girl meets boy It's all false love and affection You don't want me, you just like the attention Yes, it's all false love and affection You don't like me, you just want the attention [2x] I'm not your toy And this isn't another girl meets boy I'm not your toy Oh, this isn't another girl meets boy

I dunno, but after years of having this song in my playlist it struck me... La roux is like the Eurytmics of our generation. Listening to this song after listening to Must be talking to an Angel is like listening to the same sort of song but from diffrent circumstances. One about a girl fully in love with her lover. And the other about a girl realising she is being used. Sort of continuation, but 33 years later. I would have loved to hear Annie Lennox' itteration of this song and Elly Jacksons itteration of Must be talking to an Angel... I can only Imagine. Hats off to Elly and Ben for this amazing song. From the bottom of my hart, thank you.

This song and music video is everything that was great about the pop scene a decade ago. This song is angry at face value (she feels used and toyed with) but the music is upbeat and catchy, the positive message of empowerment is there but not childishly presented like in the kind of empowerment anthems we've seen recently (* cough * Girls Like You * cough *), the video is futuristic and retro at once, with some very, very cool shots. I appreciate that she's using a stereoscope in the intro. I actually collect the cards for those... I mean, god, it's mid-to-late 2019 as I write this. Even science fiction that's coming out now isn't futuristic, and it's not hard to see why; everything's either set in the past or set in an eminently plausible sh*thole future. This video shows a future world that's bright and shiny, like something out of a golden age science fiction novel, and a world that I'd actually like to live in. Forget these people making downbeat, depressive pop about not being over their exes, give us more Lady Gaga, La Roux, even more Owl City! I mean, hell, at this point I wouldn't mind more of the early Taylor Swift. And I'm not some edgy teenager saying "wah, I don't like modern music, I was born in the wrong generation..." I like nearly everything Billie Eilish has done, for what it is, I _loved_ Lorde's last album, and I have enjoyed a lot of the new generation of trap and trip hop. Old Town Road is great and it deserves every bit of acclaim it got. I just think... God, we need something upbeat and catchy about now. The world is bad enough and I wish the pop charts would _stop_ reflecting the zeitgeist so aptly and give us something happy again.

I don't remember where this started but I guess it didn't age super well huh? I've certainly learned quite a bit about gender non conforming identity and continue to fully support them as someone who isn't male or female, just as I've grown into being non binary myself over those years.
