Tiny Home Village is now open in North Hollywood with a concept that has the potential to reduce homelessness. Each 64-square foot unit comes with a bed, heater, and AC but the village provides much more support including job training, job placement, mental health, and substance abuse services. Kim goes to meet the founders to hear their innovative story of giving back.

That's weird because I remember a certain Musician building a procuring land for tiny homes several years back and California raided and seized them with a variety of excuses just to hate homeless people and kick them back out onto the streets. "The houses are unsafe they said" while the homeless people went back to unsecure tents. I noticed you forget to mention that little tidbit.
@Feroste

@Rahima Ali The only reason they support this project is because it's basically a homeless shelter. Don't follow the rules? Back on the street. Elvis Summers was actually giving these people the houses. No strings attatched.

What would that little tidbit have anything to do with this homeless housing project that is successful and has nothing to do with the one you are talking about. What on earth would be the point of referencing the other one when talking about the success of this one. Makes zero sense.

@@barefootiguana8471 His project was more than successful before the state shut it down. As I said, the only reason this one is being endorsed is because it's a glorified homeless shelter. They don't own the homes. They can't do what they want... You don't follow the rules, you get kicked out. You're being intentionally dense.

They really glazed over that, a lot of the homeless aren't taking to the idea simply because they feel it also takes away their freedom. Good temporary effort. However, the only way to get rid of massive homelessness altogether is to not create the economic conditions that led to homelessness in the first place. Stop shipping middle class jobs overseas. Stop allowing companies like Uber, Amazon, Door Dash and others to steal wages, and re-classify workers as contractors so they don't have to pay them employee benefits. Stop allowing corporations to gain at the expense of workers. America is collapsing from the inside out because of such practices whether you care to see this connection or not.

These things will help, but not really that much to be honesy. Theres a big difference between short term homelessness and long term, Almost every issue youve named impact people who are considered "short term" homeless far more than long term. Also, there will ALWAYS be homelessness because it has just as much to do with mental illness and drug abuse than any of the issues youve named. Solutions like these tiny homes are an excellent idea for this issue that simply will never be "solved".

@@barefootiguana8471 Unfortunately, it wont get better for decades - when today's homeless live out their lives on the streets. Statistically, once people become homeless, chances are they will remain homeless until they die. That is a fact. That is why it is so EXTREMELY important to NOT create the conditions that result in SO MANY going homeless in the first place. The way our economy is going, there will be many more homeless in the future, not less. Because like you, people refuse to see the root cause. The warmer West Coast (more temperate) climate has always attracted homeless. West Coast in general just has more temperate weather from Seattle down to San Diego. Earthquakes happen often but don't do massive damage often. Wildfires being the main issue for rural areas & air quality of all WC states. Being homeless in Midwest/Eastcoast would just freeze or possibly injured from the major increase in multiple East/Gulfcoast hurricanes if they couldn't find shelter.

I think this is a great idea. With housing prices continuing to rise there will be more and more people who are homeless, not because of drugs, alcohol or mental illness, but because they can’t find affordable housing and can’t make a living wage. They should however require them to contribute in some way, either a small amount of money if they do have a job, or by volunteer work on site if they don’t. They should not be allowed to just sit around and do nothing while living there.

Can we PLEASE have more of these in LA instead of shelters? A big reason we have such a homeless problem on CA is because the shelters are crowded, unsafe, and provide no privacy for the people staying there. Often times for women and children, staying out on the street is safer than a shelter because of the psychos and creeps they have to share a space with. We definitely have enough underutilized land to build these on, like parking lots.

An idea to help with the homelessness is better than nothing at all. Some commenters rather just do nothing and let the problem exasperate to what we have now. AWESOME idea !!! I applaud their efforts in making a "dent" in the homeless problem ..... More projects LIKE THIS, CAN make a "DIFFERENCE" !! (NOT like the temporary "Band-Aid of hotel rooms for a couple of months ...) That DOESN'T fix the problem at all ... It merely just is like "Kicking the can down the road" ....... But, that is ALL the politicians know how to do .....

@@youngcesar5230 exactly! you said it! the problem is that all the money that used to circulate in society decades ago and be used for the social programs and services that actually worked for the public good is now going into offshore accounts and the pockets of the 1%. they keep us race baited and fighting amongst ourselves while they laugh all the way to the bank!
