Los Angeles, California - Today, Chef Dafne and I visit a secret culinary paradise in the heart of Inglewood. This place is the truest meaning of hidden gem - there isn't even a sign out front to know which backyard you're walking into!
Chef Sergio Penuelas has been cooking up Mexican-inspired seafood dishes in his backyard for the past five years here at 106 Seafood Underground.
Without question, this has been my favorite place to eat in Los Angeles. Chef Dafne and I had an amazing time chatting with Chef Sergio about all of the love and passion he puts into his dishes, and how his entire family works for this beloved hidden backyard oasis!
If you ever have the opportunity to come visit 106 Seafood Underground, I highly recommend it!

This place is truly a hidden gem! Been here a couple times and it is a unique experience to say the least. It is a licensed business and the chef is highly trained in food safety and standards. Can't wait for the dry and warm weather so I can return. No invitation needed to this place you just show up like most restaurants. Be aware during the warmer weather it does get busy but well worth the experience.

In USA especially California in certain jurisdiction in some area he has to have valid Iicense for selling cooked food and alcohol permit. Who doesnt want to eat there? Such a gem.

Hey Gareth and Dafne. I JUST came across this video watching a Rockstar Eater video. Wow is all I can say. I have lived here in LA for 10 years and didn't even realize there was such hidden food here. Can't wait to try out this place. Fits in perfect since my wife is on spring break this week lol. Gareth, I open the vid where you and Chef Dafne are walking on a street, not having seen the pre-clips and I already knew you were at 106 Underground!!! Amazing hidden gem on the West Side. Sergio also known as "Checo" (very personable and accommodating) has a tremendous menu of classic seafood plates, appetizers, seafood cocktails and Vibes!! My mom used to go to a spot almost identical about 17 years ago in Inglewood as well in someone’s backyard, you’d bring your beer and dine on yummyness. They went on to open a restaurant in Inglewood called Coni’s Seafood, they been featured on the LA Times and still so good. But I’m trying this new spot asap! 🐠 🦐 🍺

Johanna Alvarez, yes i know exactly what place u are talking about, its called Coni's Seafood now but used to be called "Chente's" (well that's what we knew it by) if I'm not mistaken, when this chef left Coni's, he was cooking for a lil spot in Long Beach, Ca., called "Cheko's El Rey del Sarandeado", now it's only called "El Rey del Sarandeado" and now I know why, it all makes sense to me now... so I guess he went on and just started operating from his own backyard now and NO longer works for anyone. I have to visit this place ASAP!! 😊😋

I’ve been there before I found them on yelp. They have actually moved, but I’m gonna tell you the food is amazing. I’m a huge seafood eater and yes, it does get crowded so be prepared for the wave.

Yes! 😊👍 I thought so too... food looks identical lol I knew it had to be somehow related to old school "Chente's" I think he had a diff little spot in Long Beach called Cheko's El Rey del Sarandeado, a few yrs back. But now must be operating from home!
