Los Angeles has been testing the waters with electric vehicles for a while now, and they finally got an automated version to test. Running out of the North Central yard, this truck has been tackling recycle for the past couple of weeks. The truck actually has a long battery life, I've seen it running well past 3pm. Only issue is the battery being behind the cab making the load body farther back. It was definitely a challenge making turns in the neighborhood towards the end, due to the truck length.
Personally I don't see Sanitation getting a full fleet of these anytime in the near future, and definitely not in 2035. Electric technology is advanced, but not practical enough yet to power and run a whole yard. Another reason is because trucks like these are about a million dollars. So a budget for these would only buy half of what we'd be able to buy if it was LNG, CNG, or diesel. Unless the city receives a historic grant or budget to purchase electric vehicles, it isn't happening anytime soon like I mentioned earlier.
Filming this was definitely a different experience. I would set up my shots sometimes and by the time I turn around the truck is already with me lol. If they do get an official electric Amrep for Sanitation, I hope we see it in green paint.
