On my first trip (+18 years ago) to America my hotel was located in Skid Row... back then we didn't have Google Maps or KZfaq, so I was in for quite a surprise when I arrived there. America sure looked different from what I expected.

City should take empty lots. Installed some water spickets, put some Porta potties, and place a couple of large trash canisters. Empty the trash and potties as needed and enforcement loitering laws on the sidewalks.

I don't know if they still do but downtown LA had automated port-o-potties. It costs a quarter to use and you get maybe a 5 minute limit. Once you leave, the port-o-pottie would clean itself by lowering the toilet into the ground, and blast the entire bathroom with sanitizer.

I always think about homelessness. My DID/PTSD might just someday put me out on the street. If it happens I couldn't live like that there in skid row. I would use public transportation and head out to the suburbs at the end of the day and find an isolated area where I could sponge bath and sleep. In the morning I'd travel back to the city just so that I could be among society and bleeding hearts could buy me a sub sandwich.
