La Ventana Mexico in the state of Baja California Sur is an amazing beach spot and great stop to add to a Baja California Sur Road Trip. We spent two nights enjoying the beaches, the food and an incredible sunrise hike.

This video was relaxing to watch and informative. Thank you! I went to visit La Ventana with my mom in a small car that we rented in Cabo and we did go to the end but I got very nervous because it was just sand at the end and we were only my 68 year old mom😬 and me! Definitely would like to go back but in a 4×4. Beautiful and peaceful place. Thank you for sharing, hopefully I can go back.

Except for the warm water you mention, I think there are many nicer beaches or beach towns in the world. I love to see you dig into the tacos. They look delicious.

Yes, Playa Agua Calientes has hot springs along the shoreline. Difficult to see at high tide unless you know where they are, but at low tide you can see the water bubbling. Lots of people create a hot tub environment with volcanic rocks and sit in the water. It’s normally empty in the mornings, but evenings are very busy with people from around the world. You are correct in that the water is relatively shallow for the first hundred feet, then it drops off. But that’s just a tourist hot spot. There are much more amazing waters in the area.

I am actually thinking of starting a career as a snowbird. I've been to Mexico and the Caribbean over 30 times. I owned a house in Cozumel and know the whole Mexican lawyer experience. Specific to the Baja, I've visited Loreto twice and Cabo once. I wonder if there is a nice place with a nice view of nature that is not priced for the gringo tourists yet still offers enough services and security for an older (64) Vagamundo dal Mar. That is not a tiny town like Las Barilles yet is not a big town like San Juan del Cabo?

Loreto? Todos Santos? Both are bigger than Barriles and Ventana but smaller than SJC. What is it specifically that you're looking for in terms of amenities? Everything in the southern part of Baja California Sur is so close - you can drive from Barriles to San Jose in about an hour, from Todos Santos to Cabo in just over an hour to La Paz in about the same amount of time if you want to have the big grocery stores nearby-ish.

I'm looking for a place that has an interesting ex-pat community. As I have gotten older, I'd like a smaller, slower paced place. Even a gated community starting to look good ro me if it has arty, professional and educated people. Not to be a snob. Just a good mix. I love getting to know the locals. I rebuilt a house in Cozumel and had a ton of fun with my Mayan foreman (abuello). Problem is, places like CSL, Huatulco, Cozumel, PDL and even Cancun, did not exist until the govt decided to make a tourist area. Indigenous culture was destroyed. Please note Laura- a 2 hour round trip by car is actually difficult for some people (I am disabled). Typically, the outskirts of a bigger town could have the mix of quiet and quick access to services people retiring would need. I plan tovisit San Juan but your video shiws it is upscale and I don't really value that. I like beautiful beaches and mountain vistas.

A few comments for the Eternal Expat and her followers wile I am waiting for said video to appear... La Ventana...pop 255? Todos Santos 6,500 or so. These little towns at the meeting of sea and desert. They cannot possibly offer much for retirees except for quiet, tacos and a swim in the ocean and have little in the way of services. Especially someone like Laura who self professedly prefers Mexico City and other bigger cities.. Do any of the older crowd remember the newsletter/club "Vagamundos dal Mar". Before KZfaq and the Internet, a guide to exploring Baja was this newletter, aimed at mainly West Coast hippies and families in their RV's wanting to explore Mexico.

If you had walked to the edge of the water, and then just worked your feet into the sand, you can find spots that are so hot you can’t stand there! Most people dig a pit and line it with plastic, then fill it with alternating hot water and cool sea water until the temp is just right.

Headed to cabo pulmo mid June for 3 days with wife and 2 teenagers. Will have 2 and 1/2 days to explore. What beaches are best for snorkeling or swimming? And do you know about the hot springs at santa rita? Don't mind driving a bit to find nice places. Thx for all you do!! Very appreciated!!

If you want to snorkel on your own, the best beach for that is Arbolitos. That's where the turtles hang out and there are tons of fish. However, I really recommend taking a boat tour to snorkel while you're there because they'll take you out to parts of the reef that you can only reach by boat and it's incredible beautiful (especially the huge school of fish!). I also really loved Frailes for swimming. I don't know about the hot springs, sorry.

How can you miss the hot springs? All you have to do is dig down a few inches and the hot water bubbles up. Bring a bucket to add cold water to your little pool because it’s scorching

Eyes open as you move up el Golfo de California. I've heard of private gringo enclaves there that are ... different. Kinda no rules, experimental lifestyles, etc. A word to the wise.

It wasn't my favorite place in Baja, far from it, but I think it is still a beautiful place. There are just SO many magical places around this peninsula, you start getting spoiled by stunning beaches and this one, unless you are a big fan of kitesurfing, isn't one I would likely go back to.
