It’s not as easy to tax wealth as might think. Attlee and FDR lived in different times, a time when wealth was not so easily moved and when governments had more power than corporations. Why don’t socialists like you ever research anything all you do is reduce everything to oversimplified binary points scoring.

According to Israel everyone in Gaza is Hamas. They do not want anyone to live. They want it emptied. Can build new condos by the sea to make great real estate apartments for all your political buddies from the Colonial greats if anyone is left alive there. Then Israel can get on with trying to do the same to Lebanon then Iraq. They will never stop until they are permanently stopped by the countries funding, arming, and giving them political and diplomatic cover.

Theoretically, of course, laissez-faire capitalism investing is just the same as betting on one of the choices offered by a casino's roulette wheel: It's just a form of gambling. Sometimes you win, but most often you lose. Most humans are too ignorant/stupid to understand that. Warren Buffett is a good guesser & knows the house always wins. But DJT's casino went bankrupt!

"The tapeworm of asset-management..." Brilliant. I can't back this up with evidence, but I'm pretty sure there was a time during one of Blair's Governments when Alan Milburn was effectively made Minister for Labour's Election Campaign, which at the time incensed me as I couldn't understand why the media wasn't picking up on a Minister being paid by the public purse to do a job that was only in the interests of a political party rather than running the country. It always struck me as corrupt. I have no problem with MPs helping their party to win an election -that's their duty- but to appoint a Minister for that sole purpose was indefensible. This is the most depressing episode of Novara Media I've seen -and I'm only 20 minutes in.

The National Health Service (NHS) is one of the United Kingdom's most cherished institutions, providing healthcare free at the point of use to all citizens. As such, the leadership of the NHS is a matter of significant public interest and political contention. Recently, allegations of a Labour plot to replace the NHS chair have stirred considerable controversy, highlighting the deeply ingrained political dynamics surrounding the health service. At the heart of this controversy lies the claim that the Labour Party, in anticipation of future electoral success, is maneuvering to install a new NHS chair more aligned with its vision for healthcare. Such a move would undoubtedly be politically charged, as the chair of the NHS holds substantial influence over the direction and priorities of the organization. The current chair, a government appointee, is seen by some as closely aligned with the Conservative Party’s policies, which have included austerity measures and privatization efforts. These policies have been criticized for contributing to underfunding and staffing shortages within the NHS. Proponents of the alleged Labour plot argue that a new chair could help reverse these trends and reinvigorate the NHS with a renewed focus on public service and comprehensive care. Labour’s healthcare agenda emphasizes increased funding, improved working conditions for NHS staff, and a halt to privatization. Appointing a chair sympathetic to these goals could facilitate the implementation of such policies, ensuring that the NHS remains a robust and publicly accountable institution. Critics, however, argue that any attempt to politicize the leadership of the NHS is fraught with danger. They contend that the health service should remain above partisan politics to ensure that decisions are made based on the best interests of patients rather than political expediency. There is also concern that such a move could set a precedent for future governments to replace NHS leadership with politically aligned individuals, thereby undermining the stability and impartiality that are crucial for the effective management of the health service. The broader context of this controversy includes a general distrust in how the NHS has been managed in recent years. Accusations of politicization are not new; various governments have been accused of using the NHS to further their political agendas. The Conservative Party, for instance, has faced allegations of steering the NHS towards privatization, a charge they deny, insisting that their reforms are intended to increase efficiency and patient choice. The potential replacement of the NHS chair also brings to the fore issues of governance and accountability within the health service. The chair’s role is pivotal in setting the strategic direction of the NHS, overseeing its performance, and ensuring that it meets the health needs of the population. As such, the selection process for this position is of utmost importance. It must be transparent, merit-based, and insulated from undue political influence to maintain public trust in the NHS. In conclusion, the allegations of a Labour plot to replace the NHS chair underscore the intense political battle over the future of the UK’s healthcare system. While Labour may argue that a new chair could help steer the NHS towards a more publicly oriented and adequately funded model, critics warn of the dangers of further politicizing the leadership of the health service. Ultimately, the debate reflects broader concerns about how to best protect and enhance the NHS, ensuring that it continues to serve the health needs of the nation effectively and equitably. The challenge lies in balancing political vision with the need for impartial and stable governance, a task that will be critical for the future of the NHS.

Thankfully the Green candidate knew that's not how you beat "the right" and took his seat against Reform, SDP "Christian People's Alliance" (so, the only not-right-wing candidate). That's how you combat the right, not by running away, but by standing up to them, challenging their absurdities and stating an alternative! Not really suprising as Labour's main advisers are Blair & Mandleson. Both ardent followers of their guru, Anthony Giddens with his "Third Way or Third Position" approach to politics/economics, AKA - Neoliberalism. The rejection of using public money as instructed by using the BoE to mark up accounts via the Supply & Appropriaiton Act for our NHS; infrastructure, eduction, criminal justice, welfare, defence, etc. Instead shrinking the public budget spending (austerity), to hand vital services over to those that lobby parliament so the cream at the top is syphoned off and all the losses handed back to the State. Repeat to fade.

By not taxing the corporations the city has all the money. So just tax the corporations and invest in the NHS, Schools, and Transport etc., to build up the economy. What happened to the proposed Transaction Tax on financial services as proposed by the EU now that Farage has moved on!

I think it's because of immigration. The right in France will encourage the boats. The boats are sad and if this is the only way for them I don't have a problem with this.

Have to admit I'm tiring of Novara. Far too London centric and woefully uninformed or disrespectful to other parts of this unequal union.

The silence is deafening the systems of the past no longer apply right and left no longer exist in the traditional sense you talk the talk but do not walk the walk wisdom comes with age young people like you ignore this at your peril. The EU system is similar to Mussolini s pre war Italy so why are you surprised about what is happening it has been coming for a long time and by sticking to the old paradigms we are allowing this to happen. I despair but I will not shut up if you replied to me with alternate facts
