My little girl used to do this. In the last year of her life it was actually the only time she did bark and I imagine that her dreams were the place she could run and bark and play like she had when she was young.

Every dog has probably done this at one point during sleeping. It makes me feel happy inside when they do this. Dogs are just great aren’t they.

My black lab Taytom used to do this. Quite frequently and loudly, too. We would always gently wake her up when we started feeling like her dreams weren't so pleasant, and every single time she would smile at us. Not like your typical doggy smile, I mean an honest-to-god S M I L E. As in the corners of her lips would curve upwards just like ours do. It was the cutest freakin' thing ever.

My dog has actually been running and barking so fast and loud in her sleep, she wakes herself up.

When I was young, I used to gently wake up my neighbor's Doberman when she would start doing that or running in her sleep while I was visiting my friend; I was afraid she was having bad dreams and was scared. But she was usually awake and poking me with her Dobernose to get petted. RIP Ginger!

My boy does this every night right after we go to bed. It never fails to make me laugh. It's amazing how quickly they can fall asleep.

LOL it’s to cute when dogs are dreaming like that. My dachshund is 18 years old and he still dreams like that. My 13 year old terrier Maltese is the same way, he dreams and will bark. It’s funny how dogs bark in their sleep and you can hear them. You always want to wonder what their dreaming about.

My poodle just did something do similar!! It wasn't quite a bark, rather like she was loudly exhaling, but her whole body moved and a bit of sound came out! It's so cute!

My dog used to do this and I would wake him if he seemed too distressed in his dream by stroking his head and his eyes would open a little, look at me and he'd smile and close his eyes again and go back to sleep. The best thing humans ever did was show compassion to the runt of the wolf litter all those years ago. Now we have so many breeds of dog all over the world who reciprocate our compassion with love. My Boy Ziggy, a Great Dane German Shepard mix would do this as well though his sleep barks could get loud. I shared a room with my brother and our dog sleep in his own bed in the room. So one night Ziggy was barking in his sleep that it woke me up. I didn’t mind as I found it to be cute. Well my brother didn’t as much as when Ziggy was barking my brother got up and told Ziggy to be quite. I later learned that my brother has no memory of this, so it means that my brother in a sleepy state told my dog to be quite who was barking in his sleep. I just chuckle at this to myself.
