Does anyone else love this scene primarily because it IS so creepy? You have a masked ball with the decadence of the 18th century and a touch of 1980’s glam. The song is about a love that has gone sour. Oh and the main character is a teenager being creeped on by the antagonist (who is implied to be centuries old) in an attempt to trap both her and her half brother forever.

I believe the ballroom scene and this song is one of my favorite scenes in this movie. Because if you think about it is kind of like Beauty and the Beast only David Bowie doesn't have horns and fur. Maybe this movie is why I like owls so much is that I think one of them could possibly be Jareth in his owl form. But hey that's just the little girl in me and my crush on David Bowie.

The film's director Jim Henson viewed the entire film as a representation of Sarah's inner journey that culminates in her taking responsibility for her own life. Henson viewed the main events of the film as a dream of Sarah's, a view that is supported by the fact toys and figures resembling the creatures Sarah encounters in the Labyrinth are seen in her room at the start of the film. Henson told Ecran Fantastique in a 1987 interview that Sarah "lives in her own little imaginary and fantasy-laden world. Dreams are very important to her. The Wizard of Oz means a lot to her. When she goes into the dream world, which makes up the whole film, she plays a role that recalls the way she feels about the real world. At the end, when she emerges from the dream, from the fantasy, she starts to renounce the foolishness of her childhood, and what the characters say is simply we’re here; we’re part of you, all of us as we are. You don’t have to give up your fantasies because you grow up; they’re part of you all your life."

I was 12 when this movie came out, never knew it existed. I discovered Jennifer Connelly in the movie, "Career Opportunities", however if I so "Labyrinth" first, my crush would've begun much earlier. Then again there was 1985's "Phenomena" aka "Creepers", so..

I think it should not be lost in the brilliant look and sound of this scene that A) Jennifer Connely's character is 16 years old and B) David Bowie's character is evil and a massive creep for going after her like this. Doesn't mean you can't love this scene, it's fantastic. Just some awareness of what is actually happening would be nice. Like, if this had happened at a Bowie concert, you should call the cops.
@amysill38153 ай бұрын
Yup. Thanks for saying it. Also, David Bowie took the virginity of a 13 year old groupie when he was in his 20s. Very sick.
@brndnwilks3 ай бұрын
Bowie's character represents maturity, you couldn't have gotten the same from a character who was Connely's age. Connely's character is making the transition from child to adulthood, that's the point of the movie, and part of that is the hint of sexual awakening. Notice that Bowie doesn't actually "go after her." Rather, Connely's character seeks him out in the crowd, chasing him as he cavorts with other members of the party. When she finally corners him, he dances with her for a few seconds and when she pulls away he does nothing to pursue her. It's not meant to be viewed literally.

@@gregor_man Now you have to decide whether or not you believe it. We are all sinners in need of the blood of Christ which atones for all of our sins be they past, present, or future. Cry out to our heavenly Father and admit you're a sinner in need of salvation and that you believe that Jesus Christ is your savior and that His blood is a sufficient atonement for all of your sins and that you want to be saved; in Jesus name. Once you truly believe the gospel you are saved and sealed in Holy Spirit and you can now develop a relationship with your Abba Father. Find a Bible (I recommend KJV) and get to know God. I'd recommend reading John first, but it would be a great idea to read the entire Bible. Always pray to God that He would lead you and guide you in the Holy Spirit while you read and He will lead you into all truths. Remember He loves you and will never forsake you. Once you truly believe then you are a child of God! You're now precious to Him! Praise Jesus! Amen!
