Lace Edge for Shawls and Scarves

Күн бұрынI take advantage of the purl Stitch to show you an easy to memorize and quick embellishment for shawls, scarves, baby sweaters or whatever your imagination desires. Every 4th row you increase one stitch, so you can let this make a design on your piece, or plan accordingly by decreasing one stitch every 4th row away from the lace edge.
Pattern:
NOTE: Cast on 10 stitches to start. You can choose any number higher than 5.
Row 1: Slip 1st stitch with in front, Puri to end
Row 2: Slip 1st stitch with in front, Purl to end
Row 3: Slip 1st stitch with in front, Puri to last 4 stitches, Yarn Over, Purl 2 together, Yarn Over, Puri one in Front and Back (2x)
Row 4: Bind Off 2 stitches puri wise, Purl to end

Beautiful lace! It's a mystery, though, why so many knitters here on KZfaq choose yarn that matches the background (table). It makes it really hard to see what's going on.

You are absolutely right. Why do these people not watch their own videos before posting. Another annoying thing is when they use variegated yarn when showing a pattern. Oh really!!!!

@@virginiadutoit3577 hi Virginia, I do watch my own videos before I posted. To me there was enough contrast to see what I was doing, but I will look for even more contrast next time.

I too am an English knitter for 60+ yrs now. I’ve always been a slow knitter and could not retrain my hands to Continental. I took Andrea’s class about 10 yrs ago in Dublin, Ohio. I found that Portuguese knitting was relatively easy to crossover to and learn. It make stockinette stitching go faster for me.

Andrea, thank you for this video. The lace stitch is lovely. And the yarn is beautiful. I had no trouble seeing it. The lady who NICELY suggested a darker color has a valid point in that everyone’s monitors are different and some may not have as much contrast. But I’m always amazed at the people who ONLY complain when you are providing free content. 🙄 I took your class at Temptations and am so glad I did. I switch back and forth between Portuguese and English especially when knitting stockinette. I still have trouble with my yarn flowing through the pin and my hand. I find my knitting is always coming closer to my face, then I adjust it. Do you have a video to show how to keep the tension even and yarn flowing?

@@louisedragne5319 hi Louise. I teach people to knit this way and here I demo the lace border. My students like to see how I increase, decrease, yarn over using the pin. Does that help with your question?

What I show is the pattern. When you reach the desired width, then you start decreasing two stitches every 4th row. Can you do that?
