One reason or another i joined the Army and stayed in for 6 years. After getting out i was still young and thought to myself why not go into the Airforce. I went through AF basic in 1997. This looks way more relaxed and chill than what I went through. The dorms are so much nicer and cleaner than what we had. Night 1 we all had to shower with our shoes on then pack them in our bags with our personal clothes and affects which were then locked up until after graduation. When we got our stuff back everything stunk from being closed up with wet shoes for 8 weeks. We were screamed at the second we got off the bus till the day we went to tech school. Haha.

They do so much more in Air Force BMT than we did when i went through in '93. Ours was only 6 weeks and we didn't do hand-to-hand combat training, didn't do the gas chamber, we only spent a day or two on the rifle range and certainly didn't have a rifle in our barracks and our PT was much less involved (we never even did pull-ups). They really rushed us through. It looks like the AF has really tried to get more in line with the Army and Marines in trying to develop soldiers as well as Airmen. Kuddos to them.

@georgelopez14784 жыл бұрын
any tips or advice or things I should know? im shipping in a month for lackland.
@alextutino12654 жыл бұрын
@@georgelopez1478 its honestly not that difficult, just do what you're told when you're told to do it and there won't be any problems. You most likely won't get yelled at for no reason. The days are long but the weeks are fast. Older week flights may tell you it gets easier, it doesnt get easier, you just get better at it. 0 week through about 2nd week sucks but you get used to it after that. A lot of the instructors are actually pretty chill when you're in the day room, we could laugh and talk with ours as long as we knew certain limitations, but do not try to joke around outside of the day room. Cough drops are currency pretty much, some may even play poker for them, i did, but absolutely no matter what you do, do not get caught, be very careful or don't be an idiot and dont do it at all. Prepare for PT, don't sit on your ass before you leave. A lot of training is in the classroom and down time in the dorm, you can normally safely socialize in your dorm. Try not to volunteer for a student leader position (element leader or dorm chief) unless you like that kind of responsibility, if you do become one, dont be an asshole, nobody will like or respect you. Everyone will have some kind of job at BMT, try to get water monitor, its super easy and you just fill waters at chow. That's about all i have, though none of that may apply since things are always changing with covid-19 being a thing. Best of luck to you.

@silverblade3573 жыл бұрын
@@Not_OSI I went through in 2011 and was in decent shape. You'll work out every morning and be on your feet most of the day. You can be a twig boy, but your MTIs will make sure you can knock out all your requirements by your eighth week... or they'll retain you until you can! Personally, I'd recommend focusing on cardio until you can consistently run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes or less. Also, keep in mind that they're doing this while the cameras are rolling. The Air Force is still the Army's baby brother, but don't think your MTIs won't scream in your face.

Subjects in the test includes Electronics, Auto and shop, mechanical, etc., but focus more on the arithmetic (math), word/paragraphs knowledge, and science. @philquintana77904 жыл бұрын
Radisleo, I served six years in the Marine Corps infantry, "I don't like needles". It's not the branch, it's the individual. There were a few turds in my squad who didn't "like shots". That doesn't detract from the fact that these men and women decided to serve.

Damn Air Force looks fun lol looks way chiller than when I went through boot at MCRD SD
@philquintana77904 жыл бұрын
Isaak Duarte, the training fits the mission. I was at MCRD in '75. I was there less than an hour before I got a forearm to the chest. How many times were you hit? How many meals did you miss? How many times did your DI throw the "alarm clock" down the squad bay at 0200 to "play games"? If you enlisted after about '77, recruit training is "way chiller" than when I was there. As I said, the training matches the mission.
@isaakfrmla4 жыл бұрын
Phil Quintana ok old salt dog I wasn’t saying all the little things how our bootcamp is still harder. The initial statement of training for a different mission would’ve sufficed. Always the past marine generations who do us current marines wrong 😂
@philquintana77904 жыл бұрын
@@isaakfrmla I get a case of the ass when young Marines get vicious with their comments. Back in the day we made fun of each other but it was always meant in just that, fun. It seems like us "old Corps" Marines ride you boots about what recruit training has become, you don't like it. Same for you riding other branches. If it's meant in fun, have at it. Get vicious and this old infantry Sgt is gonna chew your ass. All service is honorable. Every veteran deserves respect. They've done something 99% of others have chosen not to do.
