No matter which Laco pilot watch you choose, all models have one thing in common: a legendary history. Because in the 1940s, only a handful of companies received permission to manufacture pilot watches. One of them was Laco. With a Laco pilot watch, you are not only wearing a precise and robust watch on your wrist, but also a piece of contemporary history.

Uwe is correct, it is better by far to try different watches before selecting and buying. But this is where the problem lies with Laco, well outside Germany at least. Uwe describes a network of shops across the country where you can experiment with different Laco watches. But very different in the UK and I suspect other countries. I'm torn between a Friedrichshafen and a Paderborn but as Uwe says, I really need to try both to see whether I like the size, the weight, how they sit, but I can't see that happening unless I make a trip to Germany.

I have the original type b watch. However, mine has a large canvas strap with grommets. Was that an optional strap?

Original version must have one option with brushed stainless steel

What is the difference between the "elaborate" movement and the "top grade" movement (+130 Euro) of the Dortmund 45mm hand winding version?

The standard elabore movement has just two regulation positions. The better movement can be regulated to be very accurate. I’m not a 100% sure but I think the lower grade movement is as a selita 220. The upper grade is an ETA 2824-2. I have the standard. Perfectly acceptable. 😊
