To earn a living doing something she enjoys which is what a career is.

I agree; I believe the reference is to Matthew Shepard, the young man who was tortured and left to die of his head injuries on a cold night in Wyoming by strangers who acted out their fear and ignorance and inhumanity, seeing him as their natural prey because of his sexual orientation.

This version gives me so many more emotions than the original. There is room for all versions! I wouldn't want to hear what you have to say about A Perfect Circles rendition of the song!

I thought she was referring to Matthew Sheppard. The gay man who was murdered in Laramie Wyoming and tied to a fence because of his sexuality. Considering the event and her speech, this makes much more sense.

Even original artists that wrote their songs, and those whom cover them, will or will not do improv during live performances. In this instant, she chose a very famous song to parallel the reason for their assembly at that particular event. Hasn't Bono changed some of his lyrics to pay tribute to some or to bring up valid points? He does it quite often. It's music and art, let it go. The examples of others are numerous. I'm not arguing for anything, just wanted to point out the obvious.

I'm not trying to start anything, we all have our own opinions. And while you may or may not believe in Gay Rights, what happened to Matthew Shepard was wrong in every way. So for Gaga to call him out in her rendition of Imagine, I believe it shows heart.

I remember the first time I heard Maddy do that; it was this tv show she'd done where she and Rupert Everett were driving around NYC and Jersey talking about "back in the day", and she was sitting there talking about being from Jersey while assuming that crazy Anglo accent, and it was just ridicu-silly.
