DC9 Banding Day! 💕 😊 DC National Arboretum EagleCam 5.2.22

2 жыл бұрынToday the eaglet DC9 from the National Arboretum DC nest was banded. This was part of a planned study to evaluate the effects of pollutants in the Anacosta River. National Geographic is doing a special on DC9, the pollutants of the Anacosta River and how this may effect the eagles. They banded DC9 and took blood samples. It is suspected that DC9 is a male - we are waiting for the blood sample to confirm the gender. Mr P returned back to the nest to check on DC9. Thank you for watching!

The wing slaps from the little guy sounded pretty solid ,"touch me and see what you get" . Even at that young age it ried to defend itself . Reminded me of Foghorn Leghorn , I'm a chicken hawk you a chicken ? And seeing mom or dad's shadow several times was cool , they were close by and keeping an eye on things .

I followed this nest for a couple of years. I’ve seen it with a foot of snow on it and watched the progression of spring. There was a lot of drama and then I lost track of it. I can’t imagine being able to climb up there so this is a real treat! It’s always been an amazing vantage point. I’ll be excited to see him fledge.

Extraordinary to watch. I was a little nervous for the chick at first but I could tell he was in good hands. The guy was so gentle and calming with his voice and taking his time. Tremendous work being done.

I kept hearing wood cracking and groaning, and I was afraid that that branch was going to break. DC9 seems to have tolerated his adventure without any issues. 🥰

I am amazed by this! This young man is well-suited for this job. I am very impressed with his demeanor and patience. He seems to enjoy his job. I have watched this a few times, and it doesn't cease to amaze me. I think DC9 did a great job too, showing how big he is by spreading his wings. That makes me smile every time. Thank you for this video and for watching out for these beautiful eagles.

@@ladyhawk I have a ? Is there a way that the banding & measurements can be done up in the baby’s nest? And I know all of the people that work there with them are big time experts & I’m no expert! Just want to point that out. But wouldn’t it cause less stress & fear to the eaglet if it’s not put in a bag & taken for idk how long. I was just wondering.

They don't band here in Fl. where I 'am because they say the band's can get caught on thing's or cut into the leg . Every where is different ....

No need as the population is doing so well. Banding only needs to happen when a study group is studying them and environmental changes. Best to leave them alone if at all possible so a smaller group is used to study. Bless the scientists who continue to monitor the populations and study how we can help them populate more again.

Oh my gosh! This has to be one of the best you've done Lady Hawk. DC9 just sat at his feet and looked at him. When he went to pick him up he got a few wing slaps. Stayed a lot calmer then I thought.

My special respect to Mr. P. for the strenuous acrobatics of climbing up there. I can assess it well because I climbed to nests, for ringing when I was very young. Wonderful documentation from you !!!!!

This is called Nest Perspective--and we see it on Nests of Cam Mon sites. Cam pickup makes birds and growing Chicks look smaller than they are-- because we have no reliable measure of Size to judge by(here we have the banders hands and body as a ref point) When we see the Female Eagle in this nest beside Eaglet--She is standing about 3 ' tall--Head to feet.--or fills up an av size guy's Chest from Chin to Belt. Eagles are " Massive " Birds

Such a fascinating insight to an Eagles nest.. Lovely ❤ to see the Beautiful eaglets size against a human.. I thought this lovely man handled the Eagalet so well with Patience and Presision .. The Eagalet was mostly calm which was good!.. Such an experience to be able the eagalets and bring so close to one is a great Wonder.. I loved watching this .. Excellent footage! The young bander was so skilled and patient with DC9. It was delightful to watch. It will be enlightening to find out the results of the blood test pertaining to effects of pollutants in this young eagle. The Anacosta River was previously one of the most polluted in the US ☹but lots of money, effort & litigation has gone to improvements. Last I heard it was still off limits to swimming and fish consumption. Will be looking for that documentary. TY LH for sharing this special video. 🤍

我看影片，為幼鳥擔憂，為什麼故意待在巢上那麼久，野生動物不是盡量不要干擾，若為了繫放檢查等必要把幼鳥帶下來，也要尊重幼鳥，甚至不應留下一條魚，等親鳥回來聞到一股人味和一條不是親鳥帶回的魚，會不會棄巢

Folks, don't try this at home. This are professional climbers and know what they are doing. The baby eagle is adorable! Has that baby a story to tell when the parents arrive! Wow! I am glad everything went well. Its amazing how they can decipher whether it is a boy or a girl from the blood sample, just like humans.

It's nice to have tracking data on these magnificent birds, but, I must say that as careful as he was, I cringed watching that bag swinging with the eaglet inside. I hope they can find a better way to do this procedure, in the future. Thanks, Lady Hawk, for the video ❣️
