Join us on an unforgettable adventure as we hike through history and experience our first via ferrata on Lagazuoi. Located in the stunning Dolomite mountain range of Italy, Lagazuoi is known for its breathtaking views and as a site of intense fighting during World War I.
Our journey begins at the Falzarego Pass parking lot, where we rent helmets and harnesses from a hut next to the cable car station. After a scenic cable car ride to the first station, we start our hike to the summit of Lagazuoi, exploring preserved trenches and tunnels from the war along the way.
At the summit, we gear up for our first via ferrata, a thrilling climb with steep ascents, exposed ledges, and suspension bridges. As we climb, we take in the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
A via ferrata (Italian for "iron path") is a protected climbing route that uses fixed cables, ladders, steps, and bridges to assist climbers as they traverse a steep or exposed route. Via ferratas were originally developed in the Dolomite mountains of Italy during World War I as a way for soldiers to move quickly and safely through difficult terrain. Today, via ferratas are popular among outdoor enthusiasts as a thrilling and challenging way to experience the mountains.
Via ferratas are designed for people with basic climbing skills and a good level of physical fitness. Climbers wear a harness and a helmet and clip onto the fixed cables using a special set of lanyards called a "via ferrata set." The fixed cables provide protection from falls, and the metal rungs, ladders, and bridges help climbers navigate difficult sections of the route. Via ferratas are typically rated based on their difficulty, with different levels of climbing experience required for different routes.
Join us for an adventure that combines history, hiking, and adrenaline-pumping excitement. This is an experience you won't want to miss!

I am always looking for the three things, scenery, a good (appropriate) workout and the history. This place has it all. I could hike following the lady with the blue hat for hours.

Is there a non-via ferrata way to go to the tunnels?
@trailtalestravel
@trailtalestravel Ай бұрын
Yes, there are two options: 1. If you look at the route we took in all trails (link in description) you can follow the route in reverse, following the eastern route to the summit. 2. You can take the gondola to the top of the mountain and walk down through the tunnels.

@@trailtalestravelI see, you guys did a loop, so the western route is the via ferrata and eastern way is the normal route?

Trenches are actually from WW1 and not WW2. They were part of the front line between Italy and Austro-Hungarian empire. WW2 wasn't fought in the Dolomites
