This is the full soundtrack to the Super Nintendo version of Lagoon. If you ask me, the song names must be wrong, but that is how it was named - I forget where I found it, but I've also seen the same songs on here so either nobody cares to fix it, or something is just totally fucked up. For example, wouldn't "Town of Decease" be the music in Poper, the town full of people dying of the plague? And "Lilaty" pretty clearly should be the music played in....Lilaty. Again, I'm not going to mess with it.
To hear the Sharp x68000 version:
• "Lagoon" Sharp x68000 ...
Anyway, I used to rent this one when I was a kid, before I got one of my parents to buy it (among many others). It's a pretty simple game, but I think the music kept me playing it over and over again. Back in the early to mid 90s, games really did have the best music.

Well, since other people are sharing their stories... I'm a completionest when it comes to great games and I go to unreasonable lengths to make it happen. Lagoon was my best friend's game and I used to borrow it from time to time, and I wanted to return it to him in a flawless state. I obtained all the weapons, shields, armour and spells and even that shiny ball that you had to go back to the beginning of the game and pay 10,000 gold to achieve. I then earned another 10,000 gold on the account for perfection sake... We were about to return the game and my mom said we had an additional 5 minutes to wait, so I decided... 'What the heck, let's listen to that amazing opening theme again!' So I put the game in and cranked the volume... 2 minutes after, the game froze during the opening and I had to turn it off. I checked the game to make sure it was ok, since it had never froze before, and when I tried to load the save file, I noticed it had been completely erased... Sad sad day...
@Captainabrik
@Captainabrik Жыл бұрын
I think it was Lagoon. None of my other SNES games ever erased on me except for this one, which if I recall happened twice to me. The funny thing was the second time, I turned it off and when I reloaded, the save file returned. I know Lagoon was one of the earlier SNES games so I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Oddly enough, I'd say my favorite song from this game is "Town of Decease." I know most others would say "Valley" or "Moonchild," but there's just something about that song's atmosphere that really brings the nostalgia vibes. It's the one I constantly come back for.

I narrowly missed this game; I picked it up as a last pick item in my shopping spree at toys r us one xmas as a kid. I had wanted final fantasy 3/6 the most, and had zero expectations for lagoon to be the one I beat first :) I would listen to the opening theme over and over sometimes taking idk 20 mins or so to start the actual game. There were places I'd stop playing and listen to the music; it's cool knowing now how limited musicians were then but still managed to capture themes and evoke the emotion out of me in response. I am grateful I can listen to these snes sound tracks and remember with ears that recalled the newness and epic awesomeness it was to a kid in the early to mid 90s that already loved fantasy and then found the music to that life in videogames like Lagoon.

I really enjoyed this game a lot, but the music is really what stood out to me. It really distinguished itself with it's unique style that I would play the game just to listen to it. The game wasn't perfect but it always felt unique in a way not many games did. And even if you're listening to a compilation of RPG music, you can pick out Lagoon tracks that you're not even familiar with just because nothing else sounds quite like it.

I have a weird true story about this game. I bought it when it was new at a store in a mall, and as I was getting in the car, I opened the box, only to find that the game inside the box was Super Mario World (at least the sticker on the cartridge was?). I was scared that the mall store wouldn't believe me, but we went right back in and they exchanged it for a proper copy without any argument. I played this game all the way through dozens of times, probably, in the years after that.

My brother rented Lagoon from Blockbuster when we were little and I loved the music so much that I got it for my 6th birthday! I didn't care that the sword was so short and difficult to use. I still have that cartridge in my collection. When I found out about the original X68000 version when I was a teenager, I played that version and was surprised by the Ys-style bump combat and every other difference. Whenever I play Lagoon now, it's always the X68000 version, especially after the English fan translation came out.

The short sword took some getting used to, and it mainly turned combat into a game of timing. Not that it was a great mechanic, but it didnt make the game unplayable like so many probably feel when they first try it. It's tough, but you can save anytime and grind out levels if need be to get past parts you're stuck at (which is ideally how a level and xp system should work imo). I was able to beat it just from rentals, though there were a few roadblocks (ice cave boss wtf)

Well, it is. The original version on the Sharp x68000 came out in 1990, the SNES version a year later.

The Genesis is a poor mans X68000. Thats what I call it nowadays. The Sharp X68000 was Sharp's ambition to bring out a computer that had arcade quality hardware. The problem was that it was so expensive that no one could afford it (try paying $3000 for a computer in 1987, or $8000 in todays dollars) for years, mostly game/arcade developers bought it to develop their games. In short, the X68000 uses a Yamaha YM2151, the Genesis uses a YM2612. The YM2612 was designed for consoles and computers in mind, the YM2151 was designed for Yamaha synthesizers. The YM2151 has 8 voices, the YM2612 has 6. If you want to hear the difference between the 2 chips, listen to the Genesis version of the game Arcus Odyssey, then listen to the X68000 (original?) version.

I really liked this game as a kid, but let's be completely honest, outside of the (absolutely stellar!) soundtrack, this game was CRAP. Tiny fucking sword is tiny. I JUST FELL IN ANOTHER FUCKING BOTTOMLESS PIT!??!?? Super unforgiving grinding required bosses that take 0 damage if your sword isn't a high enough level. The worst magic system ever conceived outside of Ys' rings. Use your only medical herb? Hope you find one in a chest. Or you can backtrack ALL THE FUCKING WAY BACK TO ELFLAND, which you have to do if you EVER want to buy a Shiny Stone in this game. I loved this game as a kid, but it is a bad game. There, I said it. Now I'll listen to the Lagoon Castle theme on loop for a few hours because it's that awesome.

+DancesWith Chihuahuas Haha, well, I kind of agreed until I played the original version on the Sharp x68000. It's much better. You push the sword into enemies, Ys style, instead of swinging it and it works out much better. The graphics and sound are much better, and the story seems to be better although I admit I can't read Japanese so I don't know exactly what they were saying. But it's much different, I can definitely say that.

The box is hilarious. "The 3-D action fantasy that is attracting RPG players in waves." 1. The game is not remotely 3-D. Not even. It is 2D, not even isolinear. 2. The graphics are really poor. The people look like they are made of Play-Do. 3. The only saving grace really is the music, which at times is epic. Especially the opening.
