Famous fermented Tea Salad of Burma| "Lahpet thohk"| Myanmar| #MaxSeng
Myanmar (Burma) is one of the few countries where tea is consumed both as a drink and as a salad, in the form of pickled tea. It is a traditional delicacy and also a Burmese gesture of hospitality.
After knowing about "Lahpet thohk" tea salad, I went on to search for it where I found it in a fancy café which was on the 26th/ 58th street of Mandalay. It's easy to find the salad in every tea shop in Myanmar. Talking about the ingredients, they put fried beans, tomatoes, cabbages , garlic and green chillies. These were then dressed with ground nut oil in the end.
The taste was quite flavourful having a pinch of spicy with the fermented tea leaf. People usually drink warm liquid tea with the salad but I couldn't do that way so I took a fresh orange juice with that.
The fermented Tea Salad as well as the prange juice costs me $0.80 ( 2500MMK ) each.
