I agree with Jasmine Guy. “A Different World” was being disrespected. I remember its last season. The network kept airing the show on different days; at different time slots. It was like a scavenger hunt, just to find it! And the last episode air so unceremoniously, that I didn’t know the show went off the air until I realized it stop airing in ANY time slot!

This generation doesn't understand anything about declining "the bag" for personal convictions or to help others. I am probably the biggest fan of the show and would've loved to see it continued into a spin-off...and even wanted them to do a spin-off of the youngsters, but I respect Jasmine's decision. NBC wasn't serious. They totally disrespected A Different World by airing the finale before the last 6 episodes (aired in the summer!) without any celebration like what happened with Cheers.

I'm glad she chose not to do it because I had gotten over the Whitley character too. I loved her and Dwayne together but there was nothing left to see. Plus, A Different World was already a spin off. They didn't need another one. I would have LOVED to see one with Kyle and Max from Living Single tho... I couldn't get enough of those two!

I don't think the Spin off would have lasted long because if she had moved past it, it would have shown in the character. Also, the network wasn't supporting it fully as she explained, and it's always good to leave your characters while at the top. I think if they did the Spin off it would have tarnished the legacy because I don't think it would have been as good because it leaves the imagination open for what happens after instead of telling so much of their story like Whitley said so I think she made the best decision for everybody show and all. Just my opinion,

I loved loved me some Different World and would have loved to have seen a Spin off but I do understand where Jasmine is coming from. Its hard to stay in a place or situation if you truly feel so direspected and I suppose hopeless in that situation changing.

Fun fact regarding the back door pilot for ADW, Kadeem and Jasmine had actually already left the cast, and it wound up being one of if not the final episodes. Originally, them leaving was like the third to last episode, because they were supposed to continue the show with the younger kids. But because the show was cancelled, in syndication, they reordered the episodes to make Whitley and Dwayne moving to Japan as the final episode.

I feel like black people as a collective back then were more culturally and socially conscious. Today, everything seems like it's all about getting $$ and so many black folks are eagerly willing to sell out. We were definitely more unified back then and that was a threat to every single institution.

I appreciate Jasmine’s integrity and her keeping it real.

I figured they were trying to do a spin off with that episode of them buying a house in the woods with Billy Dee as their landlord. I don’t think it would’ve worked. We weren’t as invested in the new class as we were with the original.

Jasmine I think experienced the same thing as Jaleel White with Urkel. They were so good and loved in the role, it was hard to play anything else. I think her popularity would have continued better on the spinoff showing young, black married couples. Debbie Allen would have made it great I'm sure.

I mean, I definitely understand. I never understood putting them and Martin on at the same time. Made no sense. But maybe they can visit a new show? Same characters, but different storyline? I wish the all the best. ❤

She probably didn't do it because she thought that she was going to "blow up" after A Different World and get all of these amazing acting opportunities. It could have been cool to see them in a spinoff, but everything happens for a reason. And to compare A Different World to Martin is laughable. Two AMAZING shows that aren't comparable in any way, shape or form.😆

A Different World was definitely one of my favorite shows to watch. It was my first time seeing Black People in College. I loved ❤the dynamics, characters, clothing, hairstyles… everything… it was So Fly to me…

With all that stress, I understand why she didn’t want to resume the show.

I remember waiting on the rumored Spin-off to come out

Instead of making Lisa go away, and creating the storyline that her character “went to study in Africa”… Imagine if they give the spin-off to Lisa‘s character Denise, and showcased the journey of a teenage pregnancy. 😳Since they felt it wasn’t appropriate for the image of a college student on ‘A Different World’… allowing her character to flourish on a platform that showcased REAL life situations, could have been monumental. Such a missed opportunity. I don’t like the way they did Lisa 😔

I believe Jasmine Guy made the right decision for her at the time. Because if they didn't respect A Different World the series at its last season, I'm pretty sure they would've did the same for the spin off series.

I think Jasmine Guy was playing chest when she rejected the spin off show because she was invested in a different world and her view from the front row seating , to the behind the scenes antics and deceitful agendas was much broader then those that were only watching. She shook the table, with a bold position that made clear “ I am not so desperate for approval or money that I will agree to be used to battle my own people. You don’t do it to your people and you won’t use me to do it to mine” Jasmine is an icon and I love her loyalty to her people.

I loved this show when I was a kid and I've always loved Jasmine Guy ever since then. It's a joke that they compared A Perfect World to Martin! They were nothing alike! I would've loved to see a spinoff. I loved all four of those characters. I respect her decision.

The "new" crew of freshman was when the series fell off...they were ok for side characters but I was there for the original cast's story lines which were really getting juicy; especially with the Ron and Freddie cheating storyline 😁

I wish Jaz would’ve done it (only because I wanted to see it) but I get why she declined. Or at least they could have allowed Lisa the chance to continue the story with her character, away from The Cosby Show 🤷🏽‍♀️

By doing so you would’ve really milk the character and provide acting jobs/new careers for upcoming actors and actresses and now you have nothing to show for it. When I was younger this was a show that me and my family actually watched none of that as a 30 something year-old I always will say this my mother my late father enjoy this show even love some of the plot lines and even taking social issues and making it part of the show! I can’t believe it’s been 35 years since the last time we seen this show I always talk about reboots and I think this show deserves a reboot! The reboot can actually have a lot to do with Whitney and Duanes to twin children if you are a member he was having twins one with a girl on one was a boy! I think giving that story a modern Tate but with their children would be a great way to introduce a different world but with a modern take modern issues and I would think it would be a great thing how many of us would love to see a modern reboot I know I would always will be A different world fan and let me just talk about the theme song for a minute I love the things on when I was younger because the late great miss Aretha Franklin Ashley theater theme song so yeah it’s always great to share my favorite moments and I think all the moments that I remember from the show I can actually tell you’re going back and thinking about some of the moments from the show was a pretty interesting show ! But one of my favorite moments has to do with Jada Pinkett Smith character she always was a tough exterior and I like that character very much ! Like I said we deserve a reboot !

Not beefing with a network and messing up your bag. The truth is back then managers didn’t know how to get the bag for their client no matter what. Even if you don’t wanna continue with NBC, ni way today a star of Jasmine or Kadeems level would fade away after a HIT tv series. Lil Nas X made a career off Old Town Road, Bhad Babie made a careee off “catch me outside”, corn kid has a career, I’m just saying, it would never happen today.

In my opinion, l think the spinoff with Dawayne, Whitley, Ron, and Freddy wouldn't have worked, because although the final episode was aired before the show was canceled, it wouldn't have made sense. Dawayne and Whitley had moved to Japan while Ron and Freddy stayed behind in Virginia. However, l do believe the other spinoff with the new college students would have been a hit.

They should have done or she should have taken it that show would have lasted a long time her and Dwayne Wayne and the other couple could have gotten married had children We would have saw the in laws on the show and the children would have grew up went to college That show would have a been a Big Success!!!

If they were to do a continuation of ADW, it should star Dwayne and Whitley's child goin back to school in their late 20s with the rest of the cast being 18 - 22 years old. Their child would be the Jolessa of the show, as they would be at least 28 years old. To spice it up, they should make the child of Dwayne and Whitley a single mother going back to school to get her master's, similar to what they were originally going to do with Denise. I don't know, you guys tell me your thoughts 🤷🏿‍♀️
