'The Ranch' Dog Shelter in Chapala Mexico www.theranchchapala.com is saving stray street dogs and finding them new homes in Ajijic and other local towns, as well as shipping the dogs to new loving homes in the U.S. Volunteers Flight Angels are needed to help the shelter get dogs into the hands of new adopting families, but the dogs need to be transported to their new homes. Working with Volaris and AeroMexico Airlines primarily, the shelter's Flight Angels program piggybacks on your existing itinerary, by using your unused cargo space to ship a fully vaccinated, healthy, spayed and neutered dog in a crate to a new owner. As a Flight Angel, there is no cost to you (it's paid for by the shelter), and virtually nothing to actually do other than give permission to add the cargo to your existing ticket. Volunteers meet a shelter rep at the airport, sign some paperwork, and then receive the crate at their destination and pass it to a receiving dog adoption organization representative. Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, and Las Vegas are the top cities, with direct flights and a well-beaten path of having used Flight Angels to get dogs to new loving homes succcessfully many times in the past.
The Ranch also welcomes volunteers to walk, play, and be with dogs to help socialize them. It's a wonderful opportunity to be with dogs with a very low-level commitment, take one for a walk in the shelter's wooded neighborhood, or play and be with them in an enclosed area on the property.
