Lake Tahoe Adventure and Sierra Mountains Scenic Drive
Camping at Zephyr Cove Campground
Join me as I camp at the beautiful Zephyr Cove Campground, nestled under the towering pines. This serene spot offers the perfect getaway for nature lovers, with its cool shade and tranquil atmosphere. Set up camp, enjoy the fresh mountain air,
Lake Tahoe Cruise on the Dixie II Tour Boat
Next, I take on an unforgettable journey across the stunning Lake Tahoe aboard the Dixie II Tour boat. This two-hour cruise takes us from the Nevada side to the California side, where we'll explore the breathtaking Emerald Bay. As we glide across the crystal-clear waters, take in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the vibrant blue-green hues of the lake.
Emerald Bay, is home to Vikingsholm, Tahoe's hidden castle. Built in 1929 by Lora Josephine Knight, this Scandinavian-style castle is a true architectural gem. Mrs. Knight, inspired by her travels to Scandinavia, brought back ideas to create this unique summer home. As we approach, we'll marvel at the castle's intricate design and its picturesque setting amidst the lush greenery of Emerald Bay.
Scenic Drive on Highway 88
The adventure doesn't end there! The next day, I hit the road and drive along the scenic Highway 88 through the Sierra Mountains. This route offers stunning vistas, winding roads, and a sense of serenity that can only be found in the mountains. I stop at several mountain lakes, each more beautiful than the last, and take in the breathtaking views that this once-in-a-lifetime trip through the Sierra Mountains has to offer.
Sit back, relax, and join me on this incredible journey through some of the most picturesque landscapes in the United States. From the tranquil pines of Zephyr Cove to the majestic waters of Lake Tahoe and the scenic beauty of Highway 88, this trip is sure to leave you with memories to cherish.

Beautiful scenery and the lake is so blue. Love the paddle wheeler. We used to have the Becky Thatcher on the CT River years ago but I think it's been retired according to a news piece I read. What a nice trip so far. Love the mountain scenery. The psalmist wrote "I lift my eyes unto the hills grom whence cometh my help. It comes from the Lord." Whenever I get down mountains seem to lift me up. Not sure why but I know how David felt. Thank you for the road trip.

Hey Russ, happy first weekend of summer! Even though I love the great scenic spots of The West, I've never been a fan of Tahoe (too crowded, too much traffic). So it's great that I can get the virtual experience with you. Good to see you putting some miles on the e-bike! When it comes to lake boat tours, my favorite is the one at Crater Lake that drops you off at Wizard Island long enough to hike up to the summit and back before they pick you up. What a great time to be riding through the Sierras. Love the sound of the cascading snow melt streams as you drive along. I can almost smell the pine-laden fresh air 🙂 See ya on the flip side...happy trails!

Loved your last two videos - this one in particular. I grew up in Amador County and haven't been on Hwy 88 since the early 80's. One of the most scenic highways in the US. Also enjoyed seeing Sharkey's Casino in Gardnerville on your last video. My dad went to high school with Milos "Sharkey" Begovich. We used to go there a lot in the 70's to have dinner with him and enjoy the prime rib dinners.

Thank you, Russ for the enjoyable trip to Lake Tahoe. It's been for me about 51 years since I was there. We came from the Sacramento side to Reno and Lake Tahoe. As you pointed out, the mountains were not too developed in the 70's. We came in the summer however as you pointed out there was snow in the higher elevations. I remember we stopped some place where I touched the snow. 🖖👍

Great video Russ! As for the burned-out trees; I can tell you that a long time ago, the people would have harvested the wood for all kinds of items; pencils, make picnic tables, classroom items for daycare...furniture...etc. The people in the past would have quickly went to work, planting new tree farms to replace the burned trees. But in today's times, the people were told that doing all that was bad and now we are left with thsoe trees just standing there. I wish people would not believe that EVERY tradition from the past was bad or that harvesting trees is not needed. Teens/young adults need to get off those video games, get reeducated with traditions and get outdoors. Its such as shame that people just don't want to farm as much as in the past. Those trees would have already been purposed and replaced with more diversity of trees that can grow for that region. It is another chance to space the trees far apart, plant with diversity to prevent bettle damage and improve on the past. In the past, they did do wrong in that they only planted one type of tree, leading to a whole area getting affected but recently, they learned not to plant like that using today's methods....its a chance to restore the environment, better.

I used to live in Reno. That's a big part of the reason I enjoyed your vid. I went up to Lake Tahoe whenever i had a chance. I never went on the MS Dixie. For future reference, I had good experiences camping at the Meeks Bay Campground. The camp spots within that campground aren't quite so close together as many of the other campgrounds around the lake. Meeks Bay is just a little bit north of emerald Bay. It can be full full without seeming crowded. At least that's the way it was when I was there last.

I lived in the Lake Tahoe area back in the early1990s, but I lived on the north shore. The north shore and the south shore are two entirely different and unrelated communities. The north shore is a lot quieter. At least it was back then. The CalNeva Lodge was our most famous landmark and my then boyfriend, (now ex husband) and I used to go there for dinner fairly often. I was living in Tahoe City when we first met. My favorite ski area was Alpine Meadows. Bought a season pass there every year. We later moved to Truckee. Truckee too is very quiet, or at least it was back then. It also has a very tragic history with the Donner Party. Kind of sad to see how the south shore has become so crowded and so built up. Only went down there a few times when I was living there, but once your got out of South Lake Tahoe you were pretty much out in the country.

Wow. The blue water and sky at Tahoe is amazing. Your video reminds me of the old viewmaster travel slides I loved as a kid. Prices sure are up around there. I can see why the one couple was paddling around in a blow-up boat. He was feeling good about saving money on the Dixie while his ole lady probably cursed him for being cheap while seeing you sail away, lol. Cruising around on the e-bike is probably the best entertainment you could have in a place like that in my opinion. It would be for me anyway. I'd have spent all day on it. Another good one here. Cheers! 👍
