When you see gar on the top water like that the oxygen level in the lake is really low. Just like when the catfish are floating to the top dead. ThE levels are really low. After a while you’ll see carp floating dead as well. The summer heat really depletes the oxygen levels in the waters this time of year.

Today I went goby fishing in Tokyo and ended up catching two dozen bluegill and no goby... The ecosystem here seems to be seriously affected by the introduced species. So did my dinner plan. No tasty goby karaage or tempura😢. And the bluegill here have yucky stinky skin. Took me more than one hour to skin them and clean them. I wish their skin did not stink, like the ones you catch Stateside.

Bluegill are my favorite fish to catch and my favorite fish to eat and that cane pole fishing brought back a whole lot of childhood memories. LFG is a true fisherman, no hype or bs from this guy.

I remember when I was a boy, my Southern grandma took us kids to her friend's backyard pond to catch a whole mess of bluegill, then we went back to her house and she fileted them all out with the skin still on. She saved all the tails and fins and fried them up along with the filets. I'll tell you what, I still dream about those fins and tails and how we all fought over them once we tasted them for the first time.

Great video! My grandmother from Shreveport would fish gills out of caddo lake and fry the whole mess for dinner. She'd be in a little jon boat with a paddle all day to bring food home. The most underrated eating fish there is.

i’ve always cooked bluegill whole a little tip when you scale them use a teaspoon it makes a little less of a mess and makes it easy

Man you sure brighten up my day, it's so wonderful watching you fish with that old pole and bobber. Just like I did when I was a kid. Enjoying the simple things in life, even those little but tasty looking morsels of bluegill. Don't have to be giants to be delicious and so much fun. Thank you so much, bless you and your family.

My Dad and the preacher used to fish together and if the preacher caught it we cooked it. The preacher said 'it is as big as a butterbean and you eat a butterbean don't ya". Now when we catch the small ones we call them preacher fish.
