15-13 probably isn’t where we anticipated the LA Lakers to be at this point in the season and the trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook have not gelled as expected either. According to a new report, LA has held internal discussions on trade scenarios to move on from Russ. 44% of Russell Westbrook's shots this season have come at the rim. That mark ranks in the 98th %ile at his position, and would be tied for his 3rd highest rate. Vogel’s rotations’s, injuries, AD’s lack of assertiveness, the roster construction are the problems sinking the Lakers ship. Russ is a piece but he’s been significantly better as of late. It’s easier to blame one person than it is to point out the complexities that make up the team and it’s issues

Yes, but those games when Bron was out and it was just AD and Russ.. that SHOULD be enough to beat teams like OKC.. yet it wasn't.. and I agree, injuries and bad rotations are a huge part of this complexity. But it really starts and ends with the stars, that is what they're paid for. AD and Russ have been lackluster! Russ should come off the bench honestly, and AD gotta find is 2020 champion version of himself, I feel like I'm watching Gasol lol

@@yanissmith4982 Russ and AD should be enough but even with Lebron on playing they’ve lost games they should’ve won, example the Kings. Stars can only do so much. When your bench is trash, the rotations are bad and you turn the ball over more than you have assists that’s a team problem. And there’s no way on earth Russ will come off the bench. How will that help? Even when he plays with the bench they aren’t that good unless either Melo or Monk are having a good game and those two come and go

Right now the scapegoat isn't Russ and it isn't LBJ because without LBJ they'd be below 500 and Russ has been playing better and improving as the season has progressed. The problem right now is the 27 yr old superstar who should be the best player on this team. That's AD. After he got his chip he acts like he has no drive anymore. Like he's accomplished everything he wants to accomplish. This entire segment is disingenuous and ridiculous. If AD played even 95% as good as he was in his first season for the Lakers they'd be at the very least 3rd in the West. Keep it real people.

last 8 to 10 games russ has cut down on 3s and turnovers and is steadily gelling together with the team. all this without 2 players in their 6 or 7 man rotations. its almost as if it takes more than 20 games for a brand new team to mesh a little bit together.

@Eric Lewis not necassarily. You could get 2-3 players with medium contracts. And their contracts could end earlier. Regardless they need a better fit. The Lakers need shooters and off the ball scorers.

Russ isn't the problem, its the whole damn team. AD shooting at a poor level and a reluctance to play the 5, THT and the rest of the bench being either old, inconsistent, or both. And the defense is just terrible to the point that a lead the Lakers have can be lost.

Russ isn't the sole problem, but he's part of the problem. There's no chemistry between them. It's been proven that you can't win with Russ as your primary decision maker. Dude isn't a good shooter. He damn sure don't play defense and he's more content with trying to get triple doubles than anything. AD is a hot mess. Melo can't carry a team on his own and he doesn't play defense on any level. LeBron's decision with Pelinka to bring these guys in had destroyed this team. It was suspected at the very beginning that it wasn't gonna work.

What other coach wants the Job for the Lakers? Not even Ty Lue wanted the job and the Lakers wanted him badly. Vogel has done a fair job but LeBron is a tough player to coach since he wants to manage as well. The Lakers should of just kept young key players and build from there. This whole conversation is quite stupid... Last season Trez, Kuz, and KCP were not playing like they are right now. Without Russ, all those PRICELESS veteran minimum contracts would not be as attracted to the lakers as they were right now. If you take Russ out of the equation you have a high chance of losing Melo, Ariza, Elington, etc. As much as it is a basketball move, it is more of a marketing move to acquire Russ. AD is not the problem, neither is Russ. The lakers are just still trying to figure things out with their 3 stars and in the past 10 games The Lakers are 7-3 with a defensive rating ranked 4th and offensive rating at 13th jumping from all the way down at 24. Sometimes I just don't understand how lazy of a thinker people are.

Other teams actually doesn’t defend russ at perimeter that much because everyone know westbrook is an pathetic jumpshooter. Have you even seen him missing three consecutive open three points in a row against celtics ? I am a die hard lakers fan for over 25 yr and never seen an all star pg playing this dumb and pathetic like westbrook in lakers. When russ has the ball in his hand, i am always sweating that he is just gonna make dumb decision or careless turnover.

Russ didn't get moved around. In OKC he and Presti worked something out because they were tanking. He left Houston because of the coaching change and he left Washington on his own to back to his home in LA.

You can tell Russ is out there giving his absolute all every night and it's true, he's acclamating faster with the team than he's ever been able to. His turnovers are becoming more manageable, he's developing chemistry, he's far more efficient, and he's sharing the ball well under the circumstances while still ending every night with a huge positive impact. Defense is getting better too. He cares about this team. The same can't be said for AD... Though I also think trading AD is not the right move, it's premature for that

Clowns in the media and casuals have no patience whatsoever. Every job be it sports or corporate, takes time to figure things out. I feel it, I think the focus coming into the season was getting another playmaker who can score, Russ is also an all-star who's been in big moments. There were too many pros on the table that the front office was willing to overlook fit and salary cap. Hindsight is 20/20 and who knows, with all those players on the team instead of Russ, they could've still had issues with the offense looking stale with Bron out.

I am trying to figure in what universe is Buddy Hield considered a better player than Russell Westbrook. Last I looked, Hield is the sixth man for Sacramento, a team that is 10th in the West and fired its coach. So Hield isn't good enough to start for a team that has been in the lottery every year he has been in Sacramento, but now he's good enough to be the No. 3 man for a title contender? In what universe does this logic make sense?

AD has been a bigger issue than Russ has been. Between Vogel rotations, defense, and injuries Russ has been the least of the lakers woes. Most of these Lebron rosters have been win now and suffer later. The previous “young core” is thriving outside of the lakers.

Westbrook being scapegoated. Anthony Davis is literally holding them back and ruining possessions. There's an entire lowlight reel of him being dominated against Memphis. He will get a block here and there but on offense doesn't post up, and on defense is barely contesting shots. They young kids were straight up targeting him without any fear. This narrative is so annoying. And if Russ gets traded, having an extra shooter still isn't going to mean anything because the other guy that you need to be dominant is still not going to be dominant. Heild would NOT have changed how bad they are. You're had a game where Russ took over the third quarter on pure energy, brought the team back with help off Bradley and DJ and then everybody else still failed, including Anthony Davis. Sure you may get less turnovers and hopefully extra defensive efficiency but you lose a guy that's averaging 19.5 points and 8.5 assists, Hield for example is averaging 15.5 and 2.1. Meaning that if Lebron had to be that guy last year (btw Drummond was blamed for clogging), and the year before although (AD was playing waaaaaay better but was still being a complementary star), and now with Westbrook he still has to be that guy. Maybe, just maybe, Anthony Davis ISN'T THAT GUY! I've never seen a guy get so protected for no reason, Charles Barkley was spot on about media being cowards. After the ring his fire has been gone. I hope Russ plays angry tonight and dominates.

The coaching has been terrible as well as team chemistry. Nobody on the Lakers can say they have power to stay on the roster unless they're LBJ or AD. Every other player is truly expendable and replaceable which is kinda sad.

I’m SHOCKED. I don’t think there’s a market for Russ. Russ obviously is a first ballot HOFer but there’s a reason Washington was willing to trade him for role players…it’s too much money for a guy who’s gotta have the ball in his hands constantly to impact the game. Love Russ, but LA has got to find a way for him to impact winning with their roster or else they’re going to be doing this for a couple more years. Edit: I don’t think Russ is necessarily the issue…it could work if they had the right pieces around them. There’s no defense on their roster and Melo is the only consistent shooter.
